Overwatch ranked mode is bad?
Have you ever played ranked mode in Overwatch? If you have friends that also play the game and want to play ranked mode with you then you're in luck, but if you're just a random douchebag like me then you're in for some rough placement matches! But if that was the only problem then that would be something you could adapt to but unfortunately that's just one of several problems.
What's so bad about ranked mode?
I'd say matchmaking is one of the worst parts about ranked mode, not only does it take long to find a match (sometimes you spent 5 to 10 minutes in skirmish) but once you get into a match then you often find yourself in a disadvantage as a random player. Because the amount of times when I'm in a team of random players and the other team has a group of four friends (or clan) or a group of five in their team is just beyond ridiculous and it puts you at a huge disadvantage when the team of random players doesn't communicate and also doesn't work together. That's pretty much a loss already. It also sucks that you wait a long time for a match to finally begin and then while you're picking a character someone leaves and everyone gets kicked out of the match. This feels like a waste of time, if I want to keep things civilized. But what I also don't like is that after every match you end up back in the main menu, so if you're in a team that you actually like then you have to group up to stay together because otherwise you will be disbanded and all end up back in the main menu which sucks.
What should be different?
I really want to face other random players as a random player, if I'm in a group with four or five other people then put me up against another team of four or five people but stop putting random teams up against a team of friends or a clan because that's a match you lose nine out of ten times. Also make it so that people need to be plugged in with their microphone, so if no microphone is detected then you can't play ranked mode? Why? Because communication is important in ranked mode, well also in quick play, and when no one has their mic plugged in then there is no communication on consoles. Sometimes I also dislike is how during my placement matches I saw people who didn't have a rank were in a group with someone that does have a rank and so this person could play against or with us. Sometimes this would be someone with a diamond rank and that's not fair against people who have no rank at all. I think that placement matches should only be for people that have no rank and that nobody, not even in a group, can join a placement match that already has a rank. Also I would like to see a more individual rating that determines your rank and not the group effort. Because if your group sucks then you get dragged down with them, while an individual rating could recognize you as someone who could have a higher skill rank than the rest of your team and so you don't get the full punishment for it. It sucks when your team hangs around in spawn and you try to play the objective and you get a bad ranking because of it. That doesn't seem fair to me!
Overmatch ranked mode is bad?
Maybe bad isn't the right word, I think unfair is a better word. I can do my best in a match but if I get horrible team mates then I'm screwed, I could hang around in spawn with them doing nothing and get the same result as when I'm playing for the objective but fail because of the lack of people that help you with that. Also the amount of times you have to face a team of friends or a clan as a random team is annoying, because those are matches you hardly ever win when the random doesn't communicate or work together and it's an easy win for any team of people that does communicate and does work together. I know you can't force people to do that but at least making certain that random teams only face random teams keeps things even. As a random player I don't enjoy ranked mode and I don't see myself playing this outside the placement matches. I got a platinum rank, which isn't bad, but when I look at the matches I lost I know that it was purely based on our team not communicating and facing a team of friends or a clan that does communicate which pretty much screws my team over. That's not just unfair, it's also very annoying! So rank mode is just for people who have friends to play the game with or people that are part of an active clan, but for random players it's just a cesspool of frustration and irritation!
