Sinful Sunday: Fighting through frustration

Whenever I play a game and I'm frustrated with the game then it's always a struggle for me to motivate myself to keep playing it. Because games are meant to be fun, so the moment they become frustrating I want to stop playing because that's not something I like. But it's worth it, at least sometimes, to fight through the frustration because a lot of games get better and that makes it worth it. Unfortunately some games get worse or just stay frustrating and then you can just be glad you finished it and you probably never play that game again.

Frustrating games aren't worth playing?

You might be surprised by the amount of good games that have frustrating moments in them, which can be just a very small portion of the game but enough to make people want to quit and never play the game again. It's really up to you to decide if you want to keep playing the game or if you're going to give up. If you're looking for advice then I can tell you that it's often worth it to fight through the frustrating moments because these frustrating moments are usually short and don't represent the entire game. For example a race in a first or third person shooter, I don't like that and I really hate it when they put that in these type of games. But also some hardcore first person platforming is something I hate, because it's a lot harder in first person than it is in third person and that makes these moments often more frustrating than they have to be. If you ask me if it's worth playing games with frustrating moments then I say yes, because often these games have plenty of fun moments to make up for the frustrating parts.

Isn't it smarter to just give up?

Well with that attitude I doubt you'll finish a lot of games, because almost every game has a moment that is frustrating or that will take a moment until you beat it. Games are meant to be a bit challenging and I doubt it's much fun when you breeze through it as if it's nothing. But nobody wants to get stuck in a game because that's not fun at all! My advice is that you look at what gets you stuck, is it something you can beat or something you know you'll never beat. Because if you know that you'll never beat that then it's just a waste of time to keep getting at it when the outcome is every time the same. That's a recipe for frustration and anger, which is something you probably want to avoid when you play a game. But don't be too quick to give up, try different tactics and if you're really stuck then check YouTube or other sides for guides and tips to beat the game you're stuck in.
