Battlefield 1 campaign is like Band of Brothers?
Did you see the campaign trailer for Battlefield 1? It's not your average let's kill them all and shoot on sight while looking like a bad ass type of trailer. It's about emotions, friendship, doubts and the will to go on. This kind of gives me the feeling that Battlefield 1 campaign could be a lot like the Band of Brothers which is a show that follows a group of soldiers in World War II.
This is a different type of campaign?
Well you still shoot people and you're still in a war but when I look at this campaign trailer I get the idea that the developers want to give you more than just a game where you get to kill a lot of other characters. I actually like this idea and hopefully the campaign is actually going to be what I think it might be which is an adventure but at the same time also that gives you something to think about. War is a terrible thing and shouldn't be celebrated nor should it be a who can kill the most type of thing. But of course it's still a game and it has to have something that keeps players interested in the game, so don't worry that this is going to be a point and click (these games can also be entertaining, just not for everyone) adventure because you will have to do a fair amount of shooting and killing to make progress in the campaign.
Do people actually play the campaign?
I never played any previous Battlefield games so I don't know how good or bad those campaigns are but from what I heard from other players is that they weren't impressed with those campaigns and some even said that CoD has better campaigns in their games. If that's really true I don't know but it does mean that Battlefield 1 could change that because the trailer looks actually pretty good and it wouldn't surprise me that a lot of people are interested in playing the campaign and not immediately dive into multiplayer. Sure you will always have players that will ignore the campaign and play only multiplayer, but then you payed 60 Euros for just multiplayer which seems like a waste to me. So don't be afraid to try out the campaign and who knows you might actually like it! At least you can earn some achievements/trophies with it which is also a good thing.
