Movie Monday: Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice (ultimate edition)
Do you like super hero movies? I like a lot of super hero movies, so I must admit that I was really excited about Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. But movies can't always give you what you hope for and I think that Batman vs Superman is a good example of that. The movie was announced with a lot of noise and the trailers look good. Somehow a lot of people didn't like the movie, so what went wrong?
Too many spoilers?
I hate spoilers, it's one of the worst things that can happen if you look forward to seeing a movie. Why? Because it completely ruins the movie for you when you already know what will happen, a sudden twist is then already known and that makes the movie less enjoyable. The problem with the Batman vs Superman trailers is that there are too many spoilers in them, they showed you too much and at the same time gave you the idea that the fight between Batman and Superman was an epic battle while it hardly lasted ten minutes in a movie that is longer than three hours (ultimate edition)! I don't know about you but I think that's lame! Sure you need to build up your characters and yes a good story can really help make a movie great, but the story wasn't really that great and then seeing a movie that's stretched out for an extra hour is just too much.
Boring heroes?
The most important part of the movie are of course the super heroes in the movie, but this also turned out to be a bit disappointing. Sure Batman looks cool and I like his style in the movie, but then in the confrontation with Superman he turns into some kind of bully that just before he makes the finishing strike gets a conscience and spares him. You might know this moment as the Martha incident, which is pretty ridiculous. Superman is just not interesting, maybe it's because we already saw this Superman in the movie Man of steel but he's just not that interesting and I can't help but want to skip those parts because it doesn't feel like it adds much to the story. Which is odd because Superman should play a big and strong part in the movie, while it feels like he just fills in a slot. Wonder Woman is actually a nice surprise, I think a lot of people had their doubts about her and she turned out to be one of the best characters in the movie. Maybe some haters got stuff to complain about but she was pretty cool in the movie and I can't wait to see more of her in the Wonder Woman movie and in the Justice League movie.
Not a bad movie?
You might think that I dislike this movie but that's not true, I actually do like the movie but I do recognize several parts that could've and really should've been better. I think that the DC heroes deserve a good movie that makes them look cool and make the viewers happy. Which is of course almost impossible because we all like different things and I think we all have something to whine about. But Batman vs Superman isn't a bad movie, it's long and kind of ridiculous in certain parts but definitely not a bad movie. I did enjoy watching it and the ultimate edition gives you several extra scenes that add a bit extra information to the story but I can't say that this really makes the movie a lot better. The thing is that Batman vs Superman is good, the Avengers is just better. I like both DC and Marvel movies but I can't deny the fact that Batman vs Superman had some disappointing moments. Hopefully the other DC movies that will release in the near future will be better and give us all something to look forward to!
