DC Universe Online on Xbox One?

Last night I was checking the marketplace on Xboxlive and to my surprise I saw DC Universe Online, so I clicked on it and discovered that this game is free! Free? Yes free to play, ok I guess you still need to be a gold member but you don't have to pay a subscription fee to play the game. So in case you like DC super heroes and if you ever wanted to be a super hero or villain yourself then this game might be something you're looking for! Why should you be interested in a game from 2011? It's true the game is pretty old, compared to some of the other games available right now, but that doesn't make it a bad game. In fact it's one of those games where you can use your creativity to create something cool and then play with that cool creation in a world full of other people who also made something cool. It's up to you if you want to team up with others, but you can always play on your own if that's more your thing. You can create some unique and cool looking...

Youtube adventures part 17

Most people that post a video on youtube want to get viewers, but it's not always easy to get viewers. Why? Because there are a lot of videos on youtube and sometimes your small channel just can't stick out between all the other channels, especially compared to the big channels. But there is a trick to get people to click on your video, there's even a word for it. Clickbait It's a dirty trick though, because clickbait means you lure people into clicking on a video (which means you get another viewer) but the promise of the title or thumbnail of the video (which is usually the bait) is often not as good as you would think. For example someone puts in a title dropping hundred people in multiplayer like a boss, but then when you click on the video you see an average performance and he or she gets like twenty kills. I can imagine that people that clicked on the video feel like they've been fooled and it wouldn't surprise me that they will reward that video with ...

Gears of War 4 multiplayer vs Gears of War 3 multiplayer

After spending quite some time in the Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta I can't help but recognize certain situations and certain gameplay, but at the same time there are also new tricks and that can lead to some nice moments in the game. But is Gears of War 4 multipayer really an improvement of Gears of War 3 multiplayer? Let's find out! Gears of War 3 multiplayer is the best? That's how most people see it and it will be difficult for Gears of War 4 multiplayer to top that, but I don't think that Gears of War 4 multiplayer is really trying to do that. I think that Gears of War 4 multiplayer is giving you a fun experience and if you happen to like that more than Gears of War 3 multiplayer then that's not a bad thing. What I like about Gears of War 3 multiplayer is that it's fast and brutal, something I can also say about Gears of War 4 multiplayer. Eventhough this is just the beta you already find yourself in a match quickly and the matches don't take that...

Who do you want to be in a game?

A lot of games put you in a position, you're often the only one that can save everyone and it's up to you to do exactly that. But some games give you options, are you going to be good or bad and will you save people or let them suffer? These are interesting options that not only give you a chance for some hilarious moments (for example instead of saving people from a monster you lock them up with the monster, ok that's pretty disturbing but in some games this is actually funny) but also allow you to have multiple playthroughs with some unique outcomes. That definitely beats the whole beat the bad guy and you're done type of game. But the real question is, what kind of person do you want to be in a game? It's good to be bad? That sounds a bit silly but in truth a lot of people like being bad in games. Not just doing some nasty things but really being bad, as in you kill everyone that get in your way and want to rule the world instead of saving it. But let's b...

Will there ever be a season 2 of the Wolf among us?

After playing the Wolf among us on my Xbox One, you can get the game for free this month if you're a gold member on Xboxlive, I couldn't help but get the urge to play more. Unfortunately there isn't a season 2 nor has there been any announcements about a season 2 for the Wolf among us. This kind of worries me, because I hear some people say that there will be a season 2 and others say that the story continues in the comics. Well I certainly hope that there will be a season 2 because the story is just so good and the game is so much fun to play, it's by far my favourite Telltale game and it would be a huge shame if they didn't give the fans a season 2. What makes the Wolf among us so good? First of all your character, Bigby Wolf (aka Big Bad Wolf), is fantastic. What's even better is that there are multiple ways of playing as him, you can be the nice guy and try to be kind to others (who don't really trust you because you're the big bad wolf) and then...

When the trailer is better than the game

I think we've all seen these amazing trailers and it made you want to play the game so badly, but then once you have the game it turns out not to be as cool as it looked in the trailer. Which is exactly why I don't fall for the oh look at the pretty trailer trick. If the game has a gameplay trailer, some good feedback from reviews and preferably a playable demo then I might be more convinced to give it a try. But sometimes I still take a gamble, eventhough that gamble is often based on something more than just a pretty trailer. Why are certain games crap compared to the trailer? Often a trailer is a fancy looking intro to the game, so it shows a lot of cool stuff in cool looking graphics and then when you play the game you're doing something not so cool with not so cool looking graphics. It makes sense though that the entire game can't be in the amazing graphics, eventhough these days there are some games out there that actually keep the amazing graphics. The pretty...

Sinful Sunday: Grinding = guilty pleasure?

A lot of games have moments where you have to grind, for me it's usually a part where I need to level up like crazy to become more powerful or to acces another area that requires a higher level than mine. So you put your mind on automatic and just grind your way to victory. But isn't that incredibly boring? Well sometimes it is and sometimes it's not. Nobody likes grinding? That's what I always thought, because who enjoys wasting time just trying to level up while you could continue playing missions or doing anything else that is more interesting? One of the moments where I discovered that grinding can actually be hilarious is in Skyrim, I had to level up like crazy to spawn a legendary dragon, if your level isn't high enough the chance of a random encounter with a legendary dragon is very small. So the higher your level is the better your chances are. So I decided to the capital of Skyrim and attack everyone in the blue palace. Sure I killed a lot of soldiers a...

Cuphead, maybe one of the best games ever made?

Perhaps you're thinking right now, who or what the fuck is Cuphead? Well Cuphead is a game where you play as a guy with a cup as a...well the name kind of explains itself I guess. What's so interesting about this game is that it looks like a classic cartoon from the early days of cartoons, which means I'm talking about the 1930's. For example cartoons like Steamboat Willie and the wise little hen. So to play a game in that style is pretty unique and I think a lot of people are interested and excited about this game. People like classic cartoons? Well that would be an easy answer to explain the popularity for Cuphead, but I think it's also because this has never been done before. There might have been a part in a game when you're in a cartoon world or some games that have a more cartoon look than realistic look but nothing like Cuphead. This game looks like a classic cartoon and yet looks amazing, I mean if people from the 1930's would've seen Cuphead...

Youtube adventures part 16

I love making videos on youtube, I really do (otherwise I wouldn't do it), but there are moments where I take a break. It's a moment where I stop playing games or just stop making videos. Which is a good thing because if you make videos every day non stop then I think you're playing a dangerous game and it's easy to get stressed. But there are also times that you're just not in the right mood for that, maybe something has happened in your life and you don't feel like making videos for some time. I'm certain that some subcribers will understand that, those that don't understand it are dumb because if someone for one moment would realize what it takes to make videos then it's not as easy as it looks. Especially when things aren't going so well with you. So you should always have a clear line between your two lives. Your personal life and youtube life It probably sounds ridiculous but it's not actually, the person you are on youtube is you b...

Can a movie make a game more interesting?

It's nothing new these days, movies based on games. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but what kind of effect does the movie have on the game? Are people more interested in playing that game or is there no real change to the popularity to that game? It's an interesting thought because seeing so many game movies it really makes you wonder if they do it to give the fans something they might like or use it as a promotion for the game, maybe it's even a bit of both. Game movies are bad? I guess it depends who you ask, some people hate game movies and others love them. Just look at the Resident Evil movies, some people really hate these movies (some of them claim to be Resident Evil fans, it's difficult to say though with all the negativity) and others like them. But have those movies really done any good for the Resident Evil games? From my point of view I don't think they did much good for the Resident Evil game series, oh sure it might have introduc...

Gears of War 4 will be better than Gears of War 3?

After Gears of War Judgement I don't think a lot of Gears of War fans thought there would be another Gears of War game. I actually liked Gears of War Judgement but unfortunately the majority didn't. But Gears of War 4 was announced and people got excited but at the same time they're also a bit cautious because what if this game is going to be just like Gears of War Judgement? And could Gears of War 4 be better than Gears of War 3? It seems impossible but don't be surprised if this game is going to be better than you think! What is Gears of War 4? From what I heard so far it takes place a couple of decades after Gears of War 3 and you play as the son of Marcus Fenix (main character from the previous three Gears of War game, Gears of War Judgement not counting) called JD and will have to fight the Locust again. At least the creatures look like Locust but then again what do I really know. You once again are a part of a team and hopefully that also means that you can pl...

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel?

If you played Red Dead Redemption then this must sound like good news. I mean not only can you go back to the world of Red Dead Redemption but also play once again as John Marston. In case you didn't know ( massive spoiler!) John dies in the first game and you play as his son Jack from that moment on, I know not everyone was happy with that but now you can play as John again and go even further back in time. Maybe even before he got married and when he was still a criminal. But are we really looking forward to a prequel? I mean we know what will happen and that might ruin the game a bit, but at the same time I have faith that Rockstar can make something good out of this game! Why a prequel and not a sequel? As I mentioned earlier, not everyone was so happy with the death of John and having to play as Jack. Ok it happens at the end of the game but I can imagine that there are people that just didn't want to finish the game because they prefer to play as John. With the Undead...

Game profile: Albert Wesker

Albert Wesker is my favourite character from Resident Evil, from the first moment I saw this guy in Resident Evil I knew that this would be my favourite and even when I discovered he was evil I still kind of hoped this wouldn't be the last I saw of him. Well I was in luck because Wesker showed up in several other Resident Evil games, not always as the main antagonist but more like the man behind the scenes plotting. I would like to add that there are spoilers in this game profile so if you haven't played all the Resident Evil games then you might want to stop reading here! Name: Albert Wesker Age: 38 (in the original Resident Evil) First appearance: 22nd of March 1996 in Resident Evil Role: Main antagonist in Resident Evil and Resident Evil 5, also shows up in Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Family: Oswell E. Spencer (father), Alex Wesker (sister) and Jake Muller (son). Background story. Wesker (as most people in the game call him...

Sinful Sunday: Being stubborn is a good thing?

As a kid people always told me that I'm stubborn and that this isn't a good thing, I should listen to others and follow their advice and the rules. As you can expect I didn't listen, I hardly ever follow advice and I make my own rules. Ok maybe that's not the smartest way of living but it has helped me when I play games. Because if I wouldn't be stubborn I probably wouldn't have finished as many games as I have now, because there is always that moment where a game frustrates me so much that I just want to rip it out of my harddrive and throw it against the wall. But instead of doing that I try again until I finally beat it. Yeah being stubborn can be a good thing! Games can really test you? Some games can, especially if you play them on a high difficulty. That's usually what separates the die hard gamers from the casual gamers. Now I'm not calling myself a die hard gamer, I absolutely have my limits and I don't like to step into what happens if I...

Shameful achievements/trophies

There are games that you probably don't want to play, maybe not because you don't like them but because you don't want others to see that you're playing that game. I think this definitely counts for guys, because men can be pretty sensitive to these type of things. Mostly because guys prefer not to be seen as a child or as a the type of guy who plays games that are more designed for girls. Not that it's forbidden to play Barbie games but seriously as a guy you don't want others to find out that you play those games and unfortunately on your profile you can see which games you have played. But sometimes it's not even the game that has to be embarrassing, sometimes there are also achievements or trophies that have the same effect. Unfortunately people can also see which achievements and trophies you have unlocked, so you might want to think twice before you want to get an embarrassing achievement or trophy! What makes some achievements/trophies so embarrassi...

Youtube adventures 15

Not every youtube channel is a succes, I'd say that the odds are against you when you start a youtube channel and you shouldn't be surprised if not a lot of people will watch your videos. Even if you put a lot of effort into your videos and have some interetsing content, sometimes people just aren't interested or your channel stands in the shadow of bigger youtube channels. That sucks put it's part of the youtube adventure, but it doesn't mean that you'll never grow or become succesful. I doubt that the big youtube channels became popular in just a week, month or maybe even a year. Sometimes it takes time and patience. Patience is a virtue When you start a youtube channel you should realize that people will not always be able to find your channel, so it's smart to pick a name that sticks out or at least separates you from other random youtubers. Sure you can be cool guy 123 but how does that separate you from the other 122? So before you even start your ...

Are some games designed to make you mad?

Have you ever played a game that made you so mad that you wanted to break it? If you haven't then consider yourself lucky or maybe you're just the type of person that is very easy going and don't get angry that easily. Unfortunately I do get angry when a game constantly annoys me, up to the point that I just want to break everything in my line of sight. I can't imagine why some developers would want to make some games so annoying, for example a moment in the game where you can die very easily and the checkpoint is further back which means you have to go through a cutscene you can't skip and do some other bullshit several times if you're unlucky. Yeah try to stay calm then! A game that is challenging is fun to play? Well that's the idea I get when I look at certain games, but is it really fun when you just want to make progress and constantly fail? The worst thing that can happen is when you have shitty controls, a horrible camera possition and instant de...

Dark Souls 3, why even bother?

I know that a lot of people love the Dark Souls games, so it doesn't surprise me that a lot of people got Dark Souls 3 and the mental torment begins again. I wonder how many people scream, beat the controller against a wall or just want to break the game after playing this game. Honestly I just don't understand how people enjoy that, oh sure it's nice when you make progress but at what cost?!!! Dying in a game is fun? Well it is if you have to believe the succes of the Dark Souls games, because if you play this game then you're going to die a lot and the game will be without mercy! It's not even the boss fights that could get you killed a lot, no some random enemy can just show up and fuck up your day throwing you back several minutes (maybe even more) in the game. It because of shit like that why I don't even consider buying this game. I don't like frustration and irritation and if a game is well known for exactly that then I wouldn't want to play t...

Upgrade your console or wait for the next console?

I hear a lot of people talking about the upgrades for the current consoles, both the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One are getting some upgrades. Eventhough Microsoft might keep that to a minimum and focus on the next console because I doubt that their upgrade is going to boost the performance of the Xbox One enough so it can be a serious rival for the Playstation 4. I'm not saying that the Xbox One is bad, but it's obvious which console is more powerful. This does bring up a question, do you want to upgrade your console or will you buy the next console on the market? It's all about money? Does that really surprise you? Well it shouldn't, because of course it's about money but I wouldn't say it's all about money. Ok maybe for some but I'm certain that there are developers out there that do the work they do because they like it. So what does that mean for the consoles? Well that probably means that you either have to pay extra to upgrade your console, bu...

Playing games isn't always a good thing?

This might seem odd to you but playing games isn't always a good thing, I'm not even talking about you skipping school to play games or calling in sick for work when you prefer to play games. No I'm talking about games that actually make you feel depressed. I don't think you need games to feel depressed but sometimes games can really make you feel terrible or so sad because of something that happened in the game. I know it's just a game but that doesn't mean that you don't feel anything! Games aren't real? Yes and no, I guess both answers work here. Sure games aren't real, you play in a virtual world and the things that you do there aren't happening in real life. But the feelings you have are real, also how a game makes you feel is very real. I know that might be a bit confusing but it really comes down to how far you get sucked into the game. If you can distance yourself from everything that happens in the game then I doubt it has a big effe...

Sinful Sunday: Games that drive you crazy

I know that there are people that can drive you crazy, both in the good way and in the bad way, but there are also games that can drive you crazy and that's usually in a bad way. For example this level you just can't beat or a boss that just won't die in a game, it's frustrating but unfortunately it happens. So what can you do about that? Well you can smash your head against the wall and hope that you completely forget about this game or you can be stubborn and keep trying until you succeed. Either way you'll get a headache! You should know your limits? Absolutely! If you know your limits then you know how far you can go, which hopefully prevents you from going crazy if you can't beat a game. For example you won't see me playing racing games, sport games or fighting games because these games usually frustrate me a lot and I'm absolutely rubbish when it comes to these type of games. It's also smart to stay away from hard mode or an even higher dif...

Games that don't have a real ending

Something I really hate is a game that doesn't have a real ending, oh sure there will be an ending cinematic but it doesn't really give you the answers you wanted or leave you with a satisfied feeling of accomplishment. You beat the game and then it's the end...or not? Some games have multiple endings? That's right, some games have multiple endings but suprisingly only one of those endings can be the true ending and so the ending you really want. Unfortunately that's easier said than done, because you can't always notice the true ending until you actually saw it, so it means you might have to play the game multiple times to get that true ending. Maybe some people like that and if there are achievements/trophies or other rewards for that then perhaps it might even be worth it but I can't say I'm super excited about that. It's nice when a game can keep you busy for some time but after spending days, maybe even weeks, in a game then you want to get ...

Youtube adventures part 14

When you post videos on youtube there's always a good chance that there will be people that dislike the video or leave negative comments, there's not much you can do about that and that doesn't have to be a bad thing. Ok some people don't like your videos, does that really surprise you? You can't make everyone happy with your videos and sooner or later you will encounter people that will just dislike your video. Why? Because they can. It's not even about accepting negativity but it's more about... Dealing with negativity When you make low quality videos like me then you can bet your ass on it that sooner or later people will dislike or even leave negative comments behind. Which is fine with me, it has never affected me that it made me want to quit posting videos. Something some of these negative people wouldn't mind seeing. It's a shame when someone doesn't like your video but it's not the end of the world, I take it you didn't upload...

Cutting up a game in pieces before release

Let's make one thing clear, I don't mean this literally! That would be stupid and a waste. No I'm talking about games that get cut into pieces and you get to play these games one piece at a time. They've done this with the new Hitman game but also the very popular Final Fantasy VII remake is going to get that treatment. How do you feel about that? Are you happy with that or do you just want a full game on launch day? Games aren't the same anymore? Unfortunately they're not. In the good old days you bought a game, usually you finished  that game in a couple of days and then you either played the shit out of that game or you were waiting for the next game. I guess thinking back at how this went it wasn't really the good old days, more like the old long waiting days. Now things go a lot faster, games are released faster, eventhough there are some delays, and you get more games to choose from every month. So it's a good time to be a gamer. But then you g...

Quantum Break is suprisingly good?

When I first heard of Quantum Break I was quite excited about this game, it was a bit weird but I like games that are a bit different. After seeing the gameplay with your time powers I didn't really know what to think of that, I mean it looks cool but does that fit with the story? Well after playing the game for quite some time yesterday I must admit that I actually do like that and think the game is a lot of fun! What makes Quantum Break so much fun? I'd say it's a combination of several elements in the game, for example in one part you play as Jack (the main protagonist) and you shoot and solve puzzles with your time powers, but at another point you play as Paul (the main antagonist) and you make a decision that impacts the story greatly. Then then there are also live action sequences in the game where you see the actors play their roles and I must admit that it looks pretty good. This diversity of gameplay plus having awesome time powers makes Quantum Break a lot of ...

Why are some people so easily scared?

Have you ever watched a horror movie or played a survival horror game with someone that is easily scared? Then you probably know that some people can be pretty extreme with their reaction, I mean some people actually close their eyes even before something happens. Maybe that makes us, people that aren't easily scared, assholes for putting them through that but it's not like every person is super heroic! Besides I doubt that people are really scared, it's just the idea that something might happen or that they know that something will happen but they just don't know what that is. So you could say that some people fear the unknown, even if it's just in a game or a movie. How can you be afraid of something that isn't real? Well that's where your imagination comes in to play, you see if you have little to no imagination then these scary games and movies will probably not affect you that much. But those with a lot of imagination are exposed to some horrible th...

Virtual Reality, just a new thing or the future of gaming?

I see a lot of videos on youtube with virtual reality games, I don't know about you but this worries me a bit. Not that I really hate virtual reality but I don't want this to be the thing for games. If it's just a new gadget for the die hard fans then I don't really give a shit but if more and more games will require a VR headset then I don't know if I see myself playing games in the future. I like things how they are now, I don't want to trade my controller in for a VR headset and I don't think I'm the only one. But how do you stop the future? Eh...you go back in time? Virtual reality is taking over? Well it's starting to look that way. Just look at Sony with their project Morpheus, this is a VR headset or goggles if you want to call them that which allows you to play PS4 games with the virtual reality technology. I've already heard from a lot of people that they're excited about it and you know what that means, that's right that you...

Sinful Sunday: Taunting or insulting?

When I look back at my early days with gaming I know that I was often an asshole towards my friends, this already started in Mario games and later in Goldeneye 64 I was probably one of the biggest assholes you could face. Maybe it was my arrogance or maybe I'm just an asshole, but it still comes down to me taunting my friends when they're defeated again. I can't say I changed that much over the years, I still like to taunt friends and sometimes even strangers online. But when it comes to other people in online multiplayer then they usually deserve it with cowardly tactics (camping or constantly hide behind their friends). I don't insult people that much, that really comes into play when I strongly suspect someone of cheating or if someone is being very rude to me. Look I never said that I'm a nice guy, but I do prefer to keep things civilized for as far that's possible in multiplayer. Why do you taunt other people? Let me first say that I usually only taunt ...

Youtube adventures part 13

You see all kinds of videos on youtube, some videos are about gaming then there are videos about movies or comics and also people that make some helpful videos where they learn you things or help you get achievements/trophies in games. There are also videos where people just talk, these vlogs are sometimes very popular and to be totally honest I don't really understand why but I guess we all have our own type of video we like. The most important choice you'll probably have to make when you start a youtube channel is... What kind of videos will you make? I started with some CoD videos, these are highlights from Black Ops 2 multiplayer matches and pretty easy to upload. Several months later I got a camera and started to record the game I'm playing on my tv, I know that this isn't a pretty video but it was never my intention to go for making pretty videos. I wanted to make a first person view gaming video. So you see the video from my perspective when I play a game. Wh...
