Sinful Sunday: Making excuses why you suck at playing games
I think we've all done this at one point, making up lame excuses why we suck at a certain game. Wether it has something to do with the controller, the console or maybe there's someone that uses cheats but it seems to always be someone elses fault why you suck at a game. But why do we make up these excuses? Well let's find out!
Why do you make up excuses?
It probably has something to do with you being embarrassed, especially when there are other people with you then you don't want them to think that you suck so it's easy to come up with an excuse to explain why you suck. As long as it's not your fault, that's pretty much what it comes down to. Oh sure I could beat this game, but this stupid controller is just making it impossible to do it or the lag makes it impossible to get anything done in this game. Surprisingly this only happens when that person is holding the controller or playing the game, yeah that sounds like a lame excuse!
Have you ever made up excuses?
If I have to be honest then yes I have made excuses, but I do think that it has something to do with my bad temper because when I'm pissed off I don't see reason and it's just easier to assume that it's someone elses fault and not my own. When I started to record some gameplay and I watched that I noticed how I get mad at things that are totally my own fault and yet I thought that it was someone elses fault. I guess when I'm annoyed or frustrated it's easy to make these mistakes, I don't think I even intent on putting the blame on others but when you're upset it's just easy to see things in one way and make it always look like it's someone elses fault. That doesn't make it okay, but somehow it's difficult to change a nasty habit.
But what if the excuse is true?
There is always a chance that the excuse is true, so maybe the controller really is a piece of shit or perhaps someone in the game really is cheating. It's just difficult to believe someone when he or she constantly screams bloody murder when he or she dies or fails in a game. It does help if you have proof, so if you recorded your gameplay you can show it to others and hopefully that will convince them. Unfortunately it's difficult to convince people if you're known to make up excuses for your failure in games, so even when you're right and honest to them they might still think you're making things up. So perhaps it's a good idea to keep things real and be honest when you suck at a game and then when things are really fucked up and you got screwed then people might want to believe you. Unfortunately there are no guarantees...
