Final Fantasy XV has an interesting battle system!
In the old Final Fantasy games you knew exactly what to expect from the battle system, your characters would be on one side of the screen and the enemies would be on the other side of the screen and then you would take turns attacking eachother. Well things are a lot different now in Final Fantasy XV!
There's a new battle system?
You could say that, well maybe it comes a bit familiar because we had already more freedom in the battle system in the last couple of Final Fantasy games but now it seems we've entered a new dimension when it comes to battle systems! You attack as you normally would attack in a hack and slash type of game, but that would be too easy to call it hack and slash. You carry several different weapons with you and you can switch to these weapons in a heartbeat. This allows you to fight with different styles and some weapons are more effective in certain situations. Something that really surprised me is that stealth is also a thing in this game. In a mission where you sneak into an enemy base you have to avoid the spotlights, if you get spotted by a spotlight then the alarms go off and you have to fight everyone in the base. But if you avoid the spotlights you should be fine, you can try to avoid enemies that you see patrolling but you can also take them out with a stealth attack. Stealth attack? Yes a stealth attack! Instead of engaging in a battle you can take out enemies with one hit if it's a stealth attack, which is quite interesting and allows you to play the game in a different way.
So it's just you against the rest?
Nope, you also have some friends with you that will assist you in a fight and do their own thing. But you can also decide to select attacks for them or even skill attacks. For example one of your party members is a tank class so he would be perfect as a distraction or as a meat shield while you do deal some serious damage to the enemies. You can also combine attacks with the others, this creats some powerful execution attacks that will rip enemies apart! From what I saw you have three others walking around with you, I don't know if these are all your party members or if you can have more or different ones but time will tell.
But what about magic?
What would a Final Fantasy game be without magic? Well you don't have to worry about that, you have magic attacks and magic has gotten a serious buff. It also affect the world around you. So a fire attack will burn wood, if you use a fire attack on enemies that are close to wooden structures or trees they will burn. With electricity magic you can electrify more enemies if they're standing in water and you could possibly also freeze more of them with ice magic. I also saw in a video that a robot was leaking oil and you can set fire to the robot with a fire attack because he's leaking oil, that's pretty cool if I do say so myself!
Will Final Fantasy XV be a good FF game?
I'm not a hundred percent certain about that but everything I've seen so far looks pretty good and I must admit that I really want to play this game! After mediocre FF games like FF XIII and bad FF games like FF XII I'm just going to sit and wait, sure you can be excited about the game but let's not go crazy and feed the hype. On the 30th of March we finally know when the game will be released, from what I heard the game will definitely be released in 2016 but it's not exactly certain when in 2016. So we better keep our eyes and ears open for more news!
