Why is there hardly any love for FF VIII?

Whenever people talk about their favourite Final Fantasy game or pick favourite characters/moments from Final Fantasy games I noticed that most times they leave out Final Fantasy VIII. Even with favourite themes, especially opening themes they sometimes leave FF VIII out and personally I don't understand that because FF VIII has one of the best opening themes I've ever seen! But then again I'm talking about opinions, so maybe a lot of people just don't like Final Fantasy VIII that much...


What's wrong with Final Fantasy VIII?


If I have to be honest then I'll admit that the game isn't perfect, I can definitely see that the game isn't the best game ever, but it does leave a lasting impression on the player and has some interesting characters and definitely a beautiful soundtrack. The story isn't great either, I mean you start good on disc one but then later on disc three I must admit that I kind of lose interest for a moment because it feels like you're running in circles and that there are parts in the game that just make me wonder why it's in the game. The main villain is also less interesting, especially if you put her against some of the other main villains from other FF games like Kefka (from FF VI) and Sephiroth (from FF VII). But Final Fantasy VIII is still my favourite Final Fantasy game, not just because it's the first Final Fantasy game I played but also because of some moments in the game that really got me into RPGs. So if I never played FF VIII then I probably wouldn't have played the other FF games or got mixed into some RPGs later. So for me personally FF VIII will always be a great game, maybe I make the game more important than it truly is but it's still an amazing game!


Are other Final Fantasy Games better?


That depends who you ask, I mean there are some people that love Final Fantasy VI and consider this as the best FF game. Then there are a lot of fan boys and girls that love Final Fantasy VII and love everything that has anything to do with this game and the game also gets a lot of love. Just look at the amount of spin offs, animated content and now even a remake of the original game. What really bothered me is that when the developers talked about making more remakes of other FF games they mentioned FF IV and FF VI but once more no one seem to mention FF VIII. For fans of FF VIII, like me, it's really frustrating to see how this game is shoved under the rug as if it's a bad game that people don't want to talk about. Well I would like to say that it's a good game and maybe not everyone will like it and that's fine with me but it's worth mentioning and definitely deserves to get some love!

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Movie Monday: Mr & Mrs Smith

There are movie that might not look good at first, when you hear about it, but once you see the movie then you know that it's a fantastic movie. What really made Mr & Mrs Smith so good was the acting of the two main stars in the movie, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. They had so much fun making this movie that it's an absolute joy to watch the movie. Which is good news for people that are looking for a fun movie to watch! Married to a spy? The story of Mr & Mrs Smith is pretty simple, a man is a spy and marries to a woman not knowing that she's a spy too. Apparently both of them are unaware of eachothers activities until their paths cross in their spy life, which leads to a lot of fighting and explosions. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great!
