Dlc announced before the game even launches?
This seems to be happening more and more, dlc is being announced for a game before the game even launches. This really gives me the feeling that developers are trying to squeeze out some more money out of gamers, because if this is announced before the game is being launched then you could just put that in the game itself. I mean that makes sense to me, but then again I'm not a greedy asshole...
Why are developers announcing dlc before a game launches?
There are several reasons, but I think the main reason is to convince you to buy the game because if you buy the game you could get this dlc as well if you buy the season pass or just buy it separately. This does bring up the second reason why developers announce dlc before a game launches, it's because they want you to buy the season pass and already showing what you get with the season pass is a good way to sell a season pass. Eventhough some games don't need to do that, for example Fallout 4 hasn't shown any dlc but a lot of people have already bought the season pass and gotten nothing for that just yet.
What makes you so upset about announcing dlc before a game launches?
That the developers could've added this to the game itself but decided to turn the content into dlc and if people want to play that you would have to pay extra, that's what I really don't like about it. I understand that some content takes time to make and that some developers choose to launch the game and then make the extra content available as dlc, that makes sense to me but if you can already show the dlc and technically have it ready then why not just add it in the game? Oh right that means they earn less money with it, because it's all about money it seems. I don't mind paying for dlc, but don't rub dlc in my face before the game has even launched because that's just spitting in the faces of gamers!
So dlc should always be announced after the game launches?
I think that's for the best, because otherwise it just feels like developers are trying to squeeze extra money out of you and yes I do realize that dlc is doing that anyway but it feels so much more like an insult when they announce dlc before the game launches as if some developers don't even care that we see them as greedy assholes. At least have the decency to announce it after the launch, it's not that people won't see developers differently but at least it's not a slap in the face and making you look stupid for actually wanting to get that dlc. I like playing games and if I really like a game I will want to buy the dlc, but if I'm being treated like an idiot and it's all about money then I suddenly feel less intrested in buying dlc even if it's for a game I really like. I guess some things just aren't worth it!
