Sinful Sunday: Follow your instinct?

It seems natural and it actually is natural when you follow your instinct. In games this is something you should embrace but in real life you might want first think before you act. Usually real life doesn't move so fast as the world in a game so you should have time to think before you act. But that doesn't mean that your instinct is terrible, sometimes it's just smarter to think before you act even in a game.

So should I follow my instinct or not?

In a game it's not a bad idea to follow your instinct, because that's usually a good thing unless your instinct tells you to jump off a cliff. But I think you know what I mean, in case you don't know what I mean I'll give you some examples. In a first person shooter it's important that you listen carefully and use your eyes as best as you can because in a lot of first person shooters it's usually the person who spots the other person first that gets the kill. Instinct can be your ally here, because if you have a hunch that someone might be in a certain spot then that's something you might want to check out. It's not stupid to stick to what you know for certain but isn't it more fun to go out and explore than to sit in one spot and just wait? You could say that instinct is that voice you hear in your head, well maybe that's more your conscience, that motivates you or inspires you. Does that seem weird to you? Well let me explain, you see instinct is like that natural gift you get that gives you information for example how to survive or what to do in certain situations. There isn't much thought with instinct, because that's why it's instinct, but that doesn't make it a bad advisor. Bringing me back to the question if you should follow your instinct or not, well I think that it really depends because your instinct might not always give you the best advice. But it's still a form of advice and sometimes that can make the difference in a game but also in real life!

How does instinct help you in games?

It can help you spot enemies faster or just give you a good idea where you could expect them, it makes platforming easier because you just do what you do instead of overthinking it, in racing games you know how to get through a sharp turn and handle that naturally without thinking too much about it. Maybe these aren't the best examples but at least you get an idea how instinct can actually help you in a game, probably half of the time you don't even realize it. Which isn't a bad thing, because your instinct doesn't need praise. Hopefully it can help you out in the near future with games!
