Sinful Sunday: Secret crush on a fictional character

It's Valentines Day and that means idiots...I mean some people do something nice for someone they care about, which is actually a good thing. But since this is Sinful Sunday I don't talk about the nice things, I'm talking about something you might not want that special someone in your life to know! That's right I'm talking about your attraction towards a fictional character from a game, it might seem silly to some but I know that there are people out there that have experience with this!

How can you be attracted to a fictional character?

Well it's not that strange because if the character looks good, sounds good and makes you feel good then why wouldn't you be attracted to that? Of course there's a part in your brain that tries to explain with logic why it wouldn't work, but you do realize that logic doesn't stand a chance against romantic feelings? What's really interesting is that some people are actually attracted to some old fictional characters and no I don't mean old as in they look old but old as in they don't look as smooth as they would look now in a game. For example in Final Fantasy VII some guys are attracted to Tifa Lockheart, but looking at the original Playstation Final Fantasy VII game it kind of looks weird to be attracted to her, especially when you can't even hear her voice but just see text appear on the screen, but there are people that are attracted to Tifa and later in other games where she showed up or animation the number of people that are attracted to her have most likely increased! But my point is that it doesn't take smooth graphics, a sexy voice and/or actual intimacy with the character in the game to be attracted to some fictional character. But if the character does look good with smooth graphics, has a sexy voice and you can get intimate with him or her in the game then that will definitely help you fall for him or her even more.

Is it really love or just sexual attraction?

That depends, some people might just be sexually attracted to some fictional characters while others have romantic feelings for a fictional character. I bet Lara Croft makes a lot of people excited, but how many of those people are actually romanticly interested in her? The same can be said about some other attractive fictional characters, sure they look hot but are you just interested in getting intimate with this character or are you actually having feelings for him or her? Eventhough it's impossible to be in a healthy relationship with a fictional character it's not something that is completely wrong, I mean you don't hurt anyone with that but as long as it's just a phase and not something you tie yourself to for the rest of your life then that should be ok. But you might not want to mention that to others, because it's difficult to explain how the person you're attracted to 'lives' inside a game.

Should you be embarrassed if you're attracted to a fictional character?

I don't think so, I think it actually means that everything seems to be working in your body and (depending when this happens) it also means that you're growing up. I never had a crush on a fictional character but that doesn't mean that I'm blind, sure I could see how hot Quistis Trepe is in Final Fantasy VIII but the part of her being a fictional character always kept things cool for me. Another character that definitely left an impression on me is Bastila Shan from Knights of the Old Republic, but that's mostly thanks to the fantastic voice actress (Jennifer Hale) who gave her a very beautiful voice. Maybe I'm just not the type that falls deeply and madly in love just like that, but it would make sense to me if people would fall for a fictional character and it's not as bad as you might think. I would suggest to keep a low profile with that, not that it's so embarrassing but I don't think everyone would understand that and it wouldn't surprise me if some people would bully you with that. Eventhough some of those people might be secretly attracted to a fictional character, maybe not from a game but there are also fictional characters in books, cartoons or movies. But often in movies you see real life actors and then it's probably more an attraction towards the actor or actress than the character they're playing. Anyway I hope you're having a good Valentines Day and if you're single then hopefully you're still having a good day playing games!
