Games are getting worse over time?

Yesterday I suddenly noticed something, it's kind of silly that I didn't notice it before but now that I have it really makes me wonder. Are games getting worse over time? Let me explain what happened, I returned to Assassin's Creed Syndicate and wanted to unlock some more achievements but then the game froze twice in one evening. That's bad but what's really weird is that this never happened when I first played the game in October. So has the game gotten worse after several months or was it always this bad and I just noticed it?

Everything gets worse over time?

When you look at computers or other hardware then that makes sense, with software it's sometimes a bit more difficult to realize that. I mean when you buy the game it's good, but then several months later it's bad? What happened to the software in the meantime? I know that games often get updates or patches but that would mean that an update or a patch messed up the game somehow. That's weird isn't it? But it happens more often than you think! It's so frustrating when a game doesn't work proper and then when the developers say that they fixed it you discover that now something else is broken. Fixing something and then breaking something else isn't really fixing something!

So developers shouldn't touch a game after it launches?

That would be a mistake, because it's good that a game gets updates and it's definitely important that a game gets a patch when something is broken. I do think that developers should first test this patch thoroughly, because more often than not a game gets a patch and that somehow messes things up more or breaks something else in the game when it's supposed to fix something. This is something I noticed a lot in Max Payne 3, a game I really enjoyed playing but it had so many issues after several months that I just stopped playing it. It's like after each patch something else was broken. The same can be said about Rainbow Six Siege, a great game but every time something is fixed another thing seems to be broken. That even lead to a point where I couldn't get experience and renown anymore, then there is no point in playing anymore. I'm glad that got fixed but I'm wondering what will break next time.

Enjoy games when you can?

That seems like good advice to me, because if games really do get worse over time then you want to play them as fast as you can and not delay playing them for too long. Of course not every game gets worse over time, but it's something that can happen and you don't want that to happen to your games! Another problem is that games that are older usually don't get updates and/or patches anymore, at least not that frequent anymore. So it's smart to get a game within a year before the game turns into a forgotten mess of issues, because at that point it might be difficult to enjoy a game that could've been a lot of fun when everything was working.
