Dlc can be better than the game itself?
I usually buy dlc because I like the game and want to keep having fun in it with some dlc, but sometimes it's the other way around. At those times I actually buy the game because I like the dlc, which probably sounds crazy to you but sometimes it makes sense!
You buy a game because of dlc?
Yep! Just look at Dying Light, which is a fun looking game but I never bought it until the Following dlc came out. Sure it helps when you get a good deal for both the game and the dlc but I probably would've bought it anyway because the Following dlc is pretty cool! Not only do you now have a huge open area with farms and even a forest, you also get a car to drive through zombies and race around the map. On top of that you also get a sweet crossbow that makes you feel like Daryl Dixon from the Walking Dead. Yeah that's pretty cool! So how could you not be interested in the Following dlc if you like zombie related games and/or movies/series? It was enough for me to finally buy the game and to be honest with you I didn't regret it, even if I did that mostly for the Following dlc.
Isn't it weird to buy a game just for the dlc?
I bought CoD Black Ops just for the zombie mode and some people find that normal, so why is this weird? It's not that the game, for example Dying Light, is terrible. It's just that the dlc is what convinced you to get the game, so in a way that's not weird at all. Besides does it really matter why you bought the game? The most important part is that you're having fun playing a game! Let's not forget that there is also a lot of bad dlc out there, so let's just be thankful that there is also good dlc out there and it can sometimes even be that good that it makes you want to buy the game if you haven't done so already!
So waiting to buy a game can actually pay off?
Sometimes it can, but I wouldn't recommend making a habit out of that. Sure you could try to save some money on it but some games don't really drop much in price. For example GTA V is still quite expensive for a game that came out in 2013, eventhough it was released a year later on the current gen consoles. But even with that in mind it's still quite expensive if you compare it to other games from the same year. So waiting to buy a game doesn't always pay off, sometimes it's just better to get a game. At least if you're interested in that game! If you're not that interested or prefer to buy another game first then it might work out for you later, you know with a good deal where you get it for a lower price or get it for the same price but with dlc.
Dlc is sometimes better than the game itself?
I think it is, of course there is also bad dlc but sometimes good dlc can really make you want to buy a game or motivate you to play it again. For example the Dawnguard dlc in Skyrim really got me back in the game and I enjoyed that story more than the main story in Skyrim, maybe that's just me but it does say sometimes about the quality of dlc. Sometimes you get such interesting dlc that it almost gets a legendary status, for example the Shadow Broker dlc in Mass Effect 2 that not only gave you an interesting story but also gave you Liara back for a short time. Maybe dlc isn't always that impressive but it really does add something extra to the game, wether that's good or bad remains to be seen but at least it should keep you busy for a little bit longer and that's not always a bad thing!
