Sinful Sunday: When games make you frustrated

No matter how much fun a game is there's always a chance that a game can make you frustrated, mostly because things don't work (at least not the way you want them to) or because of other people you meet online. That is the moment where you might want to take a step back, because if you continue with that game then things will often go from bad to worse... How can a game be frustrating? It seems weird that something that is meant to be fun can also be frustrating, but it would also depend who you ask. Some people are easily frustrated and that makes certain games a living hell for them, it also doesn't help when you're just not as good as other players and get destroyed a lot online. No matter how much fun a game is when you're frustrated that fun will disappear very quickly! One of the things that I really hate is when things don't work, for example I do something in the game but nothing happens. A door that doesn't open, a cutscene that doesn't load...

Youtube adventures part 5

There are good moments on youtube but there are also bad moments on youtube, sometimes you get new subscribers and sometimes you lose subscribers. It's not always clear to me why people just decide to leave or why they suddenly join, not everyone is talkative and it doesn't suprise me that some people just hope that if they subscribe to you that you'll subscribe to them but fail to mention that in a message. Not that this would convince me to do that but at least then I would know why they subscribe and why they eventually left. A setback doesn't kill your channel! Some people are very sensitive to setbacks, the moment something goes wrong or doesn't go the way they want it to go makes some people depressed or in some cases even angry. With a youtube channel you have to realize that there will be a lot of moments where people will subscribe and eventually leave again. This might be frustrating but you shouldn't let that get to you, because if your goal is t...

The Division beta (my experience with the game)

When I first saw the announcement trailer for the Divsion I was interested, but the more I learned the more I realized that this is a game for people that play as a team and that a solo player like me doesn't fit in this game. Well it seems I was wrong because in the beta I play solo and got a lot of things done! Oh sure it's probably more fun and smarter to play this game with your friends or at least be a part of a team but I'm just saying that you don't have to if you don't want to! Take back your city! New York City has gone to hell and it's your job to clean up the mess, which means taking care of the filth that hangs around in the streets. You start with building a base of operations, this is where you get new missions and where you can build up specialized areas where you can enhance your abilities, for example learn new skills or upgrade skills you have, and buy or sell gear. This base is also a rest zone where you can heal up and stock up on ammo. Y...

We only get half games these days?

Have you noticed how many games have dlc? Often these are missions or other type of adventures that were left out of the game and can be included into your game if you pay for it. It's a good trick but it's getting quite frustrating when most games you look forward to playing are only half a game instead of a full game, because it will require the dlc to have the full game. I guess a lot of gamers are still willing to pay for that and I don't blame them, you don't want to play half a game and if the game is fun then it makes sense you pay to play, but I can blame some developers for being greedy assholes! Developers are greedy? I'm not saying all developers are greedy but there are definitely some out there that deliberately leave out some parts of a game to introduce that as dlc later. It's frustrating to see this happen more and more, because why deliver a full game and only get sixty Dollars/Euros when you can get extra money with dlc and deliver only hal...

Vote to kick is a stupid system?

Yesterday I was playing some Rainbow Six Siege multiplayer, I was in a team of random players and we were attacking. Within thirty seconds the guy playing as Glaz (sniper) shot me in the back of the head which instantly killed me, nothing new you might think but the weird part is that when I wanted to vote to kick him the entire team voted me out. It's such a delight to play with random people, it really is! Maybe it was an accident? Well the guy that shot me also killed a team mate in the round before and when he shot me he was clearly aiming for me (I watched the kill cam) and I was climbing on a wall so there were no enemies to shoot. There was no way that it was an accident, so yeah he did that on purpose and it's nothing new in Rainbow Six Siege. You then expect some use of the voting system because the auto kick (Ubisoft claims to have an auto kick system that will kick players from a team when they kill team mates on purpose) didn't work (no surprise there). Wh...

Dying Light the Following

Do you remember the zombie killing game called Dying Light? Well you better because it's a fun game where you can parkour through a world full of zombies! In February there's some dlc coming out for Dying Light called the Following. This takes you outside the city and even gives you the option to drive around in a car. It's the same game but with some new tricks, but is that enough to persuade you to buy it? Well let's take a closer look! Freedom? If you thought you had a lot of freedom in Dying Light then you should check out the Following where you have big open areas where you can move almost anymore. You could climb on rocks and jump down in the water, run around in the fields evading zombies, go on a killing rampage with your zombie killing car or make some new friends in the small town where people are supposedly immune. Immune? Well that's the reason why Crane (your character) goes to this place outside the city, because if people are immune then that wou...

Canadian operators in Rainbow Six Siege

If you enjoy playing Rainbow Six Siege just like me then you're probably interested in two new operators coming next week, for season pass owners. These are two of a total of eight new operators that will make their way to Rainbow Six Siege this year, I don't know when the rest will be available but the first two Canadian operators will be available on February the 2nd if you're a season pass owner and if you're not then the operators are available for everyone on February the 9th. What can the new operators do? You get an attacker and a defender. The attacker is Buck who has a shotgun under barrel attachment he can use on his primary weapons. This allows you to have a rifle for long distance combat and you can switch to the under barrel shotgun attachment for close quarters combat. I don't know how many shots you get with it but I take it you should be able to do some serious damage with that! The defender is Frost who can place a trap that will immobilize enem...

Sinful Sunday: Sending/accepting random invites

I think most people that play online with other people have gotten a random invite or maybe you're someone who sends random invites to other people, I guess you can't escape that when you play with other people. Not that it's a terrible thing but you should realize that not everyone likes that and so not everyone would accept a random invite, especially when you haven't said a thing to that person. Why would people not accept a random invite? Some people prefer to first talk with someone before accepting a random invite, because if you don't know that person then why would you want to be friends with that person or be a part of his or her team? Of course we're all strangers at first but that doesn't mean that everyone is ok with just accepting a random invite, I know that some people don't make a big deal out of that but there are also people that do make a big deal out of that. For example there are people that first want to get to know you before...

Remembering why you love playing games

It might seem odd to you but sometimes I remember why I love playing games, because sometimes I'm playing games the wrong way where it feels more like a task and not as a hobby. I guess the problem with me is that I sometimes want to get an achievement and if that doesn't work out so well it makes me feel miserable but if I finally get it then I'm happy and everything is good again. At those moments I remember once more why I love playing games, it's the happiness and joy I get from playing these games. Maybe it's impossible to feel that way all the time but it sure feels good every now and then! How can you forget such a good feeling? It might be difficult to understand for some people but if you spend a week, sometimes even more, on getting an achievement then it feels more like a task you have to complete and not like you playing a game for fun. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, getting an achievement should be a bonus but the priority should always be you having...

Youtube adventures part 4

When you have a channel on youtube and you upload videos on your channel then it's only a matter of time until someone else will notice that, maybe some people have more luck with that then others but eventually people will watch some videos. You don't know if they're going to like it but as long as you had fun making the videos then it can't be that bad! It's nice when people watch your videos and like them, but sometimes you also attract other youtubers with your videos and some of them will offer you to subscribe to you if you subscribe to them. You could call that a trade, which seems innocent but in truth it's a trick some youtubers use to let their channel grow more than it would all by itself. Unwanted attention. Wether you like it or not some people will make an offer to you to subscribe to you if you subscribe to them, I think small channels are a pretty popular target for these people because they think that people with a small youtube channel will...

Mortal Kombat XL

I think this is what every Mortal Kombat fan will like, a game with all characters and all moves. What else could a Mortal Kombat fan ask for? Oh you also get all costumes and all the different skins for certain characters. I mean that's like the best thing ever, right? Absolutely! Is it really worth getting this game if you already have Mortal Kombat X? That depends, if you want to have everything in one game without spending a fortune on dlc then it makes sense that you get this game. But this game is especially interesting to people who don't have Mortal Kombat X and would like to get a Mortal Kombat game with everything in it. So if I have to be honest it will be more tempting to people who don't have Mortal Kombat X but it wouldn't surprise me that some fans would get it anyway. Besides you can also trade Mortal Kombat X in for Mortal Kombat XL, which is actually not a bad idea! Should players that are new to Mortal Kombat start with Mortal Kombat XL? Why n...

Will Rainbow Six Siege ever be fixed?

If you played Rainbow Six Siege then you probably know about the issues, because if there is a game with issues then it's Rainbow Six Siege. Don't get me wrong I really like this game but it's all the things that just don't work that piss me off and that keeps me from really enjoying this game. Which is a shame because I think Rainbow Six Siege could be one of the best first person shooters, but unfortunately it has a lot of issues and that means that it's difficult to really enjoy playing this game. What's wrong with Rainbow Six Siege? Well there's a lot to mention but let me try to give you some examples. First of all the horrible matchmaking, it seems that at this point I constantly find myself in a team of low levels and have to face high level teams. With low levels I mean below level ten and with high levels I mean above level fifty (some are even above level eighty). Another thing that bothers me is how team killers aren't kicked, Ubisoft said...

Resident Evil Zero remastered

Have you played Resident Evil Zero on the Gamecube? If you haven't then now is the chance to see where it all started, no not in the mansion but with Bravo team in a train. Yes that probably sounds weird to you but that's where the game starts and you play as Rebecca, someone you probably remember from Resident Evil (she shows up if you play as Chris). But Resident Evil Zero is more than just that, you have a partner now and that creates some unique gameplay. Maybe it's less scary but that doesn't make Resident Evil Zero a bad game and this remastered version looks pretty good! You and your partner. You don't just play as Rebecca, after some time you meet a guy called Billy and you decide to team up against the monsters in the train. This creates some unique gameplay (at least it was unique when the game first came out) where you can switch between characters and you decide what they carry and you also have to keep both of them healthy. So you can't use your...

PC is better than consoles?

For quite some years I keep reading these comments where people say that PC is master race. So here I thought that we got rid of all this master race nonsense after World War II but it seems there are still some losers that use the master race nonsense, I guess that says more about them then they would like you to know! But it doesn't stop there, no it seems that you're a peasant when you play games on a console. Seriously? Peasants? What is this the medieval times where peasant was actually an insult? You do know that people from the cities came crawling to the peasants in bad times hoping to get some food from those dirty peasants, but hey let's just stick with peasants as an insult because the people who say that are probably too stupid to understand reason anyway. PC gamers are assholes? That's a bit harsh, it's like calling everyone that plays first person shooters try hard douchebags and everyone that plays Mario games kids. There might be some truth in it...

Sinful Sunday: Female agression?

Online you might expect that guys are often the agressors and I think in most situations you would be right, but if you think that only guys are agressive then you're mistaken! Sometimes women can be agressive or at least hostile towards you as well, maybe some have their reasons for that but I think it's safe to say that some people are just assholes and that's not specified to one gender! Female gamers are agressive? Does that really surprise you? If you think that women don't get mad or are always polite then you're living in a dream world, because women can get mad just as easy as men. But I think for some guys it may come as a surprise, because some guys are still surprised when they see or hear a girl in a game and that she also gets mad is almost impossible to some people. That probably says more about that guy than the girl but it still comes down to the fact that women can be hostile in games. I'm not talking about that female friend you have that p...

The Division (first impression)

A lot of people were excited about this game, a third person shooter where working with other people is the key to victory. But now several years after the announcement and close to the release not everybody is so excited about the Division anymore. What happened? Well let's find out... PvE or PvP? I like playing games, sharing a game with a lot of other people can also be fun but the problem is that it only takes one douchebag to ruin the fun for everyone. So the more people you have in one game the bigger the chance becomes that one of them is a douchebag that ruins the fun for others. PvE is usually where players can do their own thing and in PvP doing your own thing can clash with other people and that can lead to some unfortunate or sometimes fortunate moments. In the Division they keep PvE and PvP separated, you have the campaign where you can do missions on your own or with other people (it's a lot easier if you team up with others) and then there are PvP areas (they...

Youtube adventures part 3

When you have a youtube channel you want to keep your viewers happy, especially when making youtube videos is your job. Because if people don't like your videos then there's a good chance they won't watch your videos, at least future videos. But what if you're just a guy or girl that makes videos for fun? Should you make videos that your viewers might like or make videos that you like? It's all about having fun! Wether you're a professional youtuber or not it's all about having fun, make videos about games where you have fun and don't make videos about games if it's just to score some views. People will notice when you're actually having fun playing a game or when you pretend, ok some people are good at deceiving but sooner or later people will figure out if you're someone that really enjoys playing games or just someone that's in it for the fame and money. There's nothing wrong with wanting to get succes with your videos, but y...

Do you like virtual reality?

These days a lot of people talk about virtual reality, it's supposedly the future of gaming and everyone is excited about it. But is that true? I mean do you really want to play virtual reality games? Because if I have to be honest with you then I can't say I'm excited about it. Sure I wouldn't mind trying it out but I don't feel like playing all my games likes that. Besides what are the effects of long exposure to virtual reality, oh sure it's fine for a couple of hours but what if you play games a lot and spend a lot of hours in virtual reality? I don't think that will be healthy, but at the same time who am I to say that it's not healthy since I'm not an expert on the subject. Should you be excited about virtual reality? Well it makes sense if you are, I mean it's something new and it looks cool. So why wouldn't you be excited? Probably because you like games the way they are now. For example can you imagine playing Halo, CoD or Battle...

How long will achievements/trophies exist?

Right now I'm over a 100.000 gamerscore on my Xbox One, which feels pretty good and it took me longer then I'd like to admit. But how long do we keep achievements and (for the Playstation gamers) trophies? It seems good now but in the (near) future it wouldn't suprise me that they got rid of achievements and trophies and replace that with something else. Of course I hope they won't but what if they did? What does that mean for you? Why would Microsoft and Sony want to get rid of achievements and trophies? It might seem unthinkable at this point but there will come a time that they'll come up with something new, something that might fit better with their console or their online service. For example a point system that allows you to buy things in an online store and you earn these points with achievements. On Xboxlive there is already a reward system that kind of works that way, by completing certain challenges you earn rewards but I'm talking about directly e...

Assassin's Creed Empire?

Have you heard the rumors of the new Assassin's Creed game? Apparently it takes place in ancient Egypt, which suprises me because ever since the first AC game we've been going forward in time and not backwards. It's fun though to go back in time and check out how things went back then, not that the AC games are super accurate with history but who cares about that? Why ancient Egypt? Why not? Ancient Egypt is an interesting time and looking at the weird magic/science that goes on behind the scenes in the AC universe it might just fit. Besides time was running around, I mean there could've been some 20th century adventures in AC games but I think most people like AC games that take place in the past. Just look at how people hate the current day moments in the AC games, it's one of the reasons why Ubisoft stopped with the Desmond story. So maybe playing assassin in Egypt could be cool, explore the pyramids and perhaps unravel a mystery or create one. Who is the m...

You don't have to be online to play games?

These days it's all about online gaming, always be online when you play games or else. Well there isn't really an or else but if you don't play online you'll discover some unpleasant suprises. For example did you know that if you play offline on the Xbox One that your achievements don't pop? What's worse is that sometimes the game just completely doesn't register the achievement so when you do go online it will still be locked. That means that you have to play the game again and try to unlock it a second time. That's lame if you ask me! Why do people play offline? Maybe some people don't have internet in their house, it might seem weird to you but it's possible, or you just moved and don't have internet just yet (this happened to me in my new house). You can decide not to play games and wait till you have internet and then play online or you can just play games offline. Seems like fun right? Well playing games is fun but you'd be surp...

Sinful Sunday: When a game doesn't work

I got so mad last night, I was trying to play Rainbow Six Siege online and kept getting disconnected or got so much lag that it was almost impossible to move around. I don't think I have to explain how annoying that is, I tried to be patience but after five or six matches of this bullshit you just have enough of that, instead of ranting in a video or in this blog I decided to play some Don't starve (a game that helps me relax) and I felt better after playing that game and got back into Rainbow Six Siege and things worked a bit better. I guess it helps if you take a break or just do something else for a moment, because if you keep at it and endure more frustration then you won't be having a lot of fun! But the fact remains that some games just don't work as they should, is there something you can do about that or should you just suffer in silence? Anger doesn't solve anything? Some games can really piss you off, you can then scream at everything or just take a br...

Youtube adventures part 2

It's week two and not much has changed, not that I expect that many changes but it's nice to see some changes every now and then. That doesn't mean that I haven't done anything. I have started with new videos about Life is strange, a playthrough where I talk about all kinds of things and hopefully make it an interesting experience for the viewer. A new project. It's always interesting to start something new, because it makes you wonder how people will react to that and if they'll like it or not. I must admit that this doesn't influence me that much, because even when people don't like the videos I would keep uploading them as long as I have fun making the videos. On the other hand I would keep making videos about a game if people really want me to, even when I don't enjoy that game that much anymore. I don't mind doing that for some viewers, but I have my limits and if I truly hate a game or if I'm done with a game then you won't see ...

Gaming rituals

In every sport there are certain rituals, just look at baseball and you'll know what I mean, so it probably wouldn't suprise you that gamers also have rituals. Nothing too extreme, for as far as I know, but especially for professional players there are certain things they need to do and certain things they would never do. Is that silly? Perhaps, but why change something when it works in your favour! What kind of rituals are you talking about? It can be quite simple or subtle, for example wearing certain socks when you play games or the way you position yourself for your screen. Others go so far to wear an amulet or get a kiss from a special someone for luck. It seems silly and I guess it is a bit silly, but if that works for someone then who are you to criticise that? I think we all did things at a certain point for luck before or during a match. We all need a little bit of luck, so let's not pretend as if you're above that! Of course skill plays a big role in games...

Do you want to play games with strangers?

There are people that play games but refuse to play games online if they have no friends that play that game, for some reason they just don't want to play games with people they don't know. Of course you don't have to do that but you will be missing out on a lot of fun, but I guess some people only see the negative parts of playing a game with random people and perhaps they have some unpleasant experiences with that. So it's not that surprising that some people don't want to play with strangers, but not every stranger is a bad guy or girl! A stranger is a friend you don't know? I guess an optimist would say that, unfortunately reality isn't always that positive. Sure you can meet some nice people online, but you can also meet a lot of unfriendly people online. It's a bit of a gamble and there's no guarantee what you get, sometimes a great team and sometimes a terrible team. It's rough when you face a team of friends when you're in a rando...

Giving your old games away?

I did something good this year, oh I don't need praise but I thought it would be interesting to talk about it. I still have some old consoles and games but I never play on those consoles, so I could just keep them in my closet gathering dust or I could do something with them. So I decided to give them to a charity that gives these consoles and games to families who don't have that much money to spend and can't afford consoles and games. This way kids who don't get a lot of presents in a year still have a chance to play some games. It's not that you need to play games but it's nice if you can. Why would you give your old console and games away? Why not? If you don't use that console anymore then the console and the games for that console are just wasting away, isn't it better to give them a new home? I know that some people would rather try to sell them and I understand that as well, because with the money you earn from your old console and games you ...

Games that are released too early?

You often hear how some games are delayed but do you know that some games are released too early? This often has something to do with a marketing strategy, for example if it's a movie game (a game based on a movie) then it makes sense that the developers want to see it released around the time the movie is in the cinema or is available on dvd. But also the time of the year has something to do with it, for example before Christmas a lot of people buy presents and releasing a new game can be a good thing for the sales when people buy these games for their kids or for themselves. Unfortunately this doesn't always mean that the games are in good shape, some of these games even have a lot of issues! Releasing a game early is a bad thing? It sounds stupid but it is, because if a game isn't fully tested and in top shape then I don't want to see it released just yet. Games that have bugs, glitches or are just simply put impossible to enjoy are a waste of time, isn't it ...

Is 2016 a good year for gamers ?

It's a new year with new games to look forward to. Wether you like first person shooters, action/adventure, role playing games or survival horror I think we all get something good this year. I don't know if 2016 is going to be as good as 2015 but I really hope it will. There are several games coming out that I'm interested in. I'll talk about them a bit below. Mass Effect: Andromeda. I'm really curious about this game because I love the Mass Effect trilogy and I'm wondering what will happen in this game. I know you don't play as Commander Shepard but you do seem to play as a N7 operative, which means (I think) that once more you play as a human soldier (you can probably customize your specialization). I really hope that you can select your own race and try something new, but even if that's not the case I'm still excited about this game! Exploring new worlds, doing new things and meeting new people. Man I can't wait to play this game! The Di...

Sinful Sunday: Team killing

It's an interesting option in a game, the ability to kill your own team members. But why would you do it? It doesn't help you nor your team, so what's the point of killing people in your own team? I guess the simple answer is that people just do it to annoy other people, because they like to be an asshole in a game and try to make other people mad or just sabotage a mission and make the team lose. I personally don't see the fun in that but I guess you need to be a sad sack of shit to actually enjoy that! Why is there a need to kill people on your team? I think there are multiple reasons. First of all it could be an accident, not everyone that kills someone on their team meant to do that, sometimes it just happens when you shoot an enemy and a team member walks into your line of fire. It's not like you can stop the bullets in the middle of the air! Some people are just curious, can I kill someone on my team and if I can how will others respond to that? I wouldn...

The opinion of a gamer matters?

When I first started playing games I never thought that developers would listen to you, I mean why would they? You're just someone who plays games and they made the game you played, how could your opinion possibly have any value? Oh sure some would say that it would matter but that's what politicians say as well, but in the end do you really believe that they care about what you think? Well I think that developers care about what you think, because if gamers don't like something then that's bad for business, besides I also think that a lot of developers want to make games that people like and not games that people hate. Opinions matter? That might not count for everyone but I think when it comes to games that your opinion matters, at least if you keep it civilized. If you just complain and whine, in other words only say what's wrong about a game without anything else to add to that, then there's a good chance that people might not be interested in your opini...

Youtube adventures part 1

Happy New Year everyone! I decided to start something new in 2016, youtube adventures. So what are youtube adventures? It's where I talk every week about having a youtube channel and what goes on in the mind of someone that puts videos on youtube. Maybe this isn't interesting for everyone but I'm personally interested in looking back at this in a year or so to see what went on in that crazy brain of mine. You could say that this is a personal blog where I talk about my channel, what I want to do or what I have in mind and what I don't want to do (anymore). Hopefully this gives you some information about how things go with a youtube channel, with some luck I keep this up the entire year and I'll have a weekly chat with you about having a youtube channel and the videos I put on youtube. A good start? Let me first say that I started putting videos on youtube just for fun, I had not plan to become rich or famous and looking at the quality of my videos I don't th...
