Games make you more/less social?
There are several points of view on the topic of social gamers, because some people think that gamers are sad people sitting all day in their room playing with themself (on a computer/console, just to be clear) and then there are people that say that gamers are actually quite social and have a lot of friends online. So what's true and what's false? Well let's figure it out!
The stereotype gamer isn't real?
Just look online for stereotype gamer and you'll see the pictures of what some people think gamers look like. I don't think I have to mention that this is often just a load of bollocks! There are a lot of gamers, just check some game related videos on youtube, that look nothing like this stereotype gamer. Some people say that people that look good aren't real gamers, as if you can't look good and enjoy playing games. I mean honestly people is that how it is now? Just because there is a stereotype for gamers out there does that truly mean that everyone that falls out of the stereotype can't be a gamer? Being a gamer has nothing to do with your looks, where you live or what you do besides playing games. Gamers are people that enjoy playing games, I don't think there is a restriction on being a gamer so wether you're young or old, short or tall, pretty or not so pretty it doesn't matter! There might be people out there that have overweight, live in the basement of their parents and spend all day behind their computer/console but that doesn't mean that everyone does that. Besides who cares how other people live their life, as long as you're having fun living your life then who cares what someone else thinks of that!
So gamers are actually social?
Well not everyone, there are a lot of people that prefer to play single player games and even when playing a multiplayer game they don't have their microphone plugged in and will often mute other players. I guess not everyone is social and that's ok, you don't have to be social to play games eventhough in some games it definitely helps when you're social. Besides it's a good way to make new friends and playing games with friends is often more fun than playing games on your own. Thanks to modern technology you can talk with people all over the world and also play games with people all over the world, you're no longer stuck to the people that live around you. This creates possibilities and opportunities to make more friends and have a great time playing games with other people online. But it's true that all the online talking actually makes you a bit less social in a way. What I mean with that is that everyone that only talks to his or her friends online is still closing himself or herself off from others, because being social is more than just talking but it's also spending time with people and actually meeting them. Because no matter how much fun you can have with people online, I still think it's more fun to actually spend time with your friends in person. Of course you can still play games together on your console with splitscreen!
