How much time should you spend on a game?
Lately I've been having this weird feeling that I spend too much time on one or two games and ignore other games, eventhough it's true that I play Rainbow Six Siege a lot at this time it doesn't mean that I don't want to play other games. It'sjust difficult for me to adjust to another game when I'm used to the controls of one game. What's worse is that once I'm getting better with one game I don't want to switch to another game, because then I get worse and the next time I play it I'll have to start over with getting better with that game. Maybe it seems silly to you but this usually keeps me stuck to one or two games a lot longer than I used to. Because a couple of years ago I'd spend about one maybe two weeks max on one game and then move on to the next, but now I see myself spending a month or even more on a game. Which is nice, I mean having so much fun with a game is great and it saves me the trouble (and money) of buying a new game to keep myself entertained, but I do get the feeling that I'm playing certain games too much and that can lead to me disliking a game because I played it too much. Not that I hate the game after that but I do get tired of a game I play every day for about a month.
Playing the same game for too long is a bad thing?
Well it doesn't have to be a bad thing, but it is for me unfortunately. For example Destiny the Taken King, Black Ops 3 and Fallout 4 are all games I played a lot and then I got tired of them. Not that I dislike them but if you play these games too many times then it's starting to get old. I still have issues with Dragon Age Inquisition, which is a fantastic game but I played that game for more than a month non stop and after that I couldn't play it anymore. I haven't even played the dlc, I'm just not up to getting back in that game because I still have this awkward feeling of not liking it because I played it for too long. Which is why I definitely recommend switching it up a bit, play different games and do other things to make certain you don't get fed up with a game too quickly. It's nice when a game is fun to play but the last thing you want is to spend too much time on a game and then disliking that game because of that. Maybe it's just me but I bet there are more people who have the same issue.
So how much time should you spend on a game?
I don't think there is really a time period for this, mostly because some people have no issues with playing a game for weeks or even months non stop. But some people also like to take their time with finishing a game, so rushing it would definitely be a bad idea. I guess you should just try to beat it once and then give it some time until you feel like playing it again. I do think it's a bad idea to go for multiple playthroughs without taking a break from the game. That's a good way to get tired of a game and that's probably not what you want. So instead of going for multiple playthroughs I would recommend to try to finish a game or at least make a certain amount of progress and then switch it up with another game, preferably a game that is just fun to play and doesn't suck you into a huge game world that keeps you busy for quite some time. For example a game like Don't Starve where you can play whenever you want and when you're done with the game you can save and pick up where you left next time you play. There's nothing wrong with spending time on a game, but I would recommend to keep things moderate and not go hardcore addicted gamer on a game because that will suck the fun out of the game before you even realize it!
