Gamers want remakes?
When it comes to movies then it's a sensitive subject because a lot of fans don't like it when some Hollywood douchebag wants to mess with their beloved movie. But what about games? Are we happy when an old game gets a remake or do we prefer to keep things as they are?
We want remakes?
I think you can say that when you look at Final Fantasy VII, so many people were asking for a remake and finally after many year there is a remake coming! I guess you could say that the fans wanted it so eventually they got one, well it still has to come out but at least it's coming. The same can be said about the Legend of Zelda: the Ocarina of Time, we've seen several remastered versions but a lot of fans would like to see a remake of this almost legendary game. Sooner or later we might actually see it, but nothing is certain in the world of games because you don't always get what you want and sometimes you get things you don't want!
We don't want remakes?
Just look at Goldeneye 64, a fantastic game that is loved by a lot of people. Many have tried to get a Bond game of equal succes and all of them have failed. There was even a Goldeneye 2, terrible game, and a remake Goldeneye Reloaded, also a bad game, that was meant to give us a new Goldeye game. But the thing is that these games didn't even come close to the original game, the four player deathmatch made the game legendary and even the remake couldn't get close to that. I guess Goldeneye 64 is one of those game that was one of a kind, sometimes it's better to leave that alone than to try and copy that which then ruins the memories you have of the original game.
So do we need remakes?
I don't think we need remakes, but it's nice to see some games get a remake. For example Resident Evil is also a game that has a fantastic remake, it looks amazing! It's just that the original Resident Evil on the Playstation is such a memorable game (the parts with real actors gave it a real B movie feeling, which I mean in a good way) that it was difficult to beat that but the Resident Evil remake is also amazing, the graphics look incredible and it made something scary into something terrifying! So maybe we don't need remakes, but I don't mind remakes if they can actually come close to the original game. If it's just a lame attempt to get some quick cash then I would strongly advice developers not to do it! Some gamers are quite passionate about certain games, if you mess with those games then you'll get a shitstorm of hate on you! That doesn't mean that it's a bad idea to make a remake of a game, just do it right and I'm certain that the fans will appreciate it. Well...some of them at least.
