A new Batman game from Telltale Games?

Rocksteady is done with Batman, so who picks up where they left? Apparently it's going to be Telltale Games, which is a big surprise for me because I didn't see that coming! If you're unfamiliar with Telltale Games then you might have heard of the Walking Dead, the Wolf Among Us and the Game of Thrones games they made. They're well known for creating interesting stories and characters and then giving you the option to make choices in the game they've created. This leads to some unique moments in the game and makes it also more fun to have multiple playthroughs in one game.

So this is point and click Batman?

Well let's not forget that there are fighting scenes in Telltale games and eventhough that's not as impressive as the free flow combat in the Arkham games it's still pretty good. I do think that this game will focus more on investigating and how your character (Batman) will react to other characters in the Batman universe. I don't think this means you can do crazy things out of context, for example kill criminals or date other heroes or villains just like that. But you might be able to create your own version of Batman. For example is your Batman the broody vigilante with a heart of gold? Perhaps your Batman is the ruthless crime fighter with a heart of ice? I think you can create your own type of Batman with the choices you'll make in this game, if this game is going to be anything like the other games Telltale Games have created. I can say that I'm actually happy with this, that Telltale Games is making a Batman game.

Why is this a good thing?

Because this gives you the chance to play as Batman in another way, eventhough in the Arkham games you already played multiple sides of Batman (investigator, crime fighter, sneaky vigilante) but you never really went into the relationships he formed with the people around him. The conversations didn't give you any options and Batman would say what he was meant to say as according to the script, now you might be able to choose what Batman would say and how he reacts to the people around him. This might lead to some sarcastic comments or the super serious approach, either way it gives you the chance to see Batman in a new light and at the same time give you a blast playing as Batman.

But why another Batman game?

I saw some complaints from people that had enough of Batman, they want another DC hero or villain to get a chance in a game. As much as I would love to see some other heroes or villains in games I have to admit that Batman is one of my favourites and it's an interesting character who is also pretty popular, so it makes sense that Batman will often be the character in a game instead of some other character in the DC universe. Besides Superman is an almost impossible character in a game, so it's also easier to make a game with Batman instead of Superman. Another issue is also that not every DC character is that well known as Batman or Superman, so you could make a game about Aquaman but he's not as popular as the other two and some might not even know who he is or what to expect from a game that is about Aquaman. That doesn't mean that it would be a bad idea to give other DC heroes or villains a chance, I would love to see a Teen Titans game or a Suicide Squad game. Maybe in the future that might still happen...
