Goodbye single player mode?
It seems that these days more and more people prefer to play online with eachother, so the (offline) single player is less and less attractive. At least that's the idea I'm getting here, because in more and more games you don't see a single player anymore or only a multiplayer campaign. I guess it's assumed that everyone plays with other people, but is that really true?
People always play with their friends?
You might think that but that's not true, because that means that whenever you're online they're online as well. I don't even think that's possible. Some games don't support multiplayer so if you're in the campaign it means you'll have to play on your own and your friends can't join you. Is that really so bad? I guess for some people it is, but to shove the online multiplayer campaign in all our faces is just lame. Because I don't always want to play with other people, sometimes it's nice to just play in your own way without anyone else there to rush you or that slows you down. You can move in your own speed and actually follow the story instead of someone talking through the cutscenes. But don't get me wrong! It's fun to play with friends, but it's also fun to just play solo every now and then. So why would you take that away from people?
So single player games will disappear?
Well not just like that, I seriously doubt that one day you wake up and everything is going to be online multiplayer only. But I do see how more and more games are getting rid of single player, one way or another. They either make it so that the campaign is made for multiplayer or they leave the campaign out and focus on multiplayer. That's not always a bad thing, but sometimes it's nice to get some story and actually have an idea what the game is all about. Because when I look back at Titanfall I don't even have an idea what that was all about, sure two different groups fighting against eachother in titans but that's about it. I think it's a shame because it could've been an interesting story, but now we might never know...
What's wrong with online multiplayer campaign?
Nothing really if it's optional, eventhough you'll probably have to miss out on a couple of achievements/trophies if you don't know other people to play the game with, but why even add that in a game? I mean a lot of people don't even play the campaign and go straight into multiplayer. I've seen this in CoD and in Halo games, which actually surprises me to be honest. How can you be a fan of a game series and only play multiplayer, then you're missing out on half the game. Maybe I'm the weird one here but I think that the campaign is something I value. I want to first finish it and in my own way, I don't want other people in the campaign because when I'm done with the campaign I go into multiplayer and meet other people there. It used to be so simple but these days developers like to mix things up a bit, hopefully it's for the best but I have my doubts about that.
