The world of games is a world for men?
I´ve heard people say a lot of times that the world is a world for men, but what about the world of games? Probably at first people considered it a world for men but women have certainly found their way in this world as well. But what about the developers? How do they look at growing number of women that play games? Do games now have more kick ass female main characters or do we still have to rescue a princess from a castle?
A main female character has to be sexy? Not that there is anything wrong with being sexy but I think some people might prefer just your casual or cool female character than a woman that hardly has any clothes on. Well people might have different opinions about this but some games show women in fantasy outfits and that´s not really a punishment for a guy to play such a game, but I wonder how women look at that because I don´t think they´re always that happy that someone of their gender is portrayed like that. It often makes me wonder if developers just make games for men and if women want to play it then that´s a bonus, but maybe I´m seeing things a bit grim. That doesn´t take away the fact that in certain (mmo)rpg´s a high level male armor is usually plate armor of some sort, but for women it´s a lot of times not much armor plating but there is a lot of skin that you see! When I think of Lara Croft I see this bad ass woman that can solve any mystery and survive almost anything, but what if Lara looked a bit more like a geek? Would she still be able to be such a populair character or would people stop playing those games? A character that gives women a cool character to play with in games is Fem Shep (female Commander Shepard), maybe it´s just me but I think she looks good and doesn´t go crazy with being a walking lingerie advertisement. So somewhere someone is doing something good!
Are games more for men than for women? I don´t think so, I do think that certain games are based more on guys but that doesn´t mean that they´re forbidden for girls! Even CoD made their latest game more friendly for women by introducing character customization in multiplayer by letting players play as a female soldier. But then again you get to stab or shoot women in the face, so maybe it´s not that friendly? Anyway things change, the world of games is always changing and I think that´s a good thing. Why be stuck in one idea when there are so many more out there! I´m at least curious what the future will bring us and hopefully the world of games will be for everyone just as much fun!
