Video games are for nerds?
If you played games since the late 80´s and early 90´s then you´re probably not unfamiliar with being accused of being a nerd because you play video games. Back then it wasn´t cool to play video games, which usually meant a lot of kids wouldn´t talk about it openly and often keep their game adventures to themselves. I don´t want to make it sound as if it was horrible to be a gamer in that time but things are completely different now. Because now you´re a loser if you don´t play video games, there are console wars and people attack eachother online over the most stupid things. It seems some things change and some things will never change!
To answer the question if video games are for nerds then you first have to determine what a nerd is, because I think we all know the revenge of the nerds movies and I don´t think that those movies represent nerds (at least not all of them). The visual representation of a nerd has changed, at least for some of us. At first a nerd would be someone who looks like he is weak, pale, not populair and is good with computers. A typical stereotype when it comes to nerds I think. But these days a nerd can be cool, look good and doesn´t know shit about computers. I guess it really depends on what you think is a nerd. Would you be insulted if someone called you a nerd? Or do you consider that to be a compliment? I know that some people are proud to be a nerd, but I doubt everyone feels that way and I don´t think it´s nice to be labeled as something.
Anyway getting back to my question, are video games for nerds? I don´t think it´s restricted to nerds, because I think video games are for everyone! It doesn´t matter if you´re young or old, fat or thin, male or female, black or white, dumb or smart. Video games are for everyone! There are so many types of games and so many things you can do in games that there is often a game just for you or at least something you might be interested in. But that doesn´t mean that everyone likes video games, I know people that don´t like them and that´s quite alright because you don´t have to like them. Which is kind of weird now that people call you a loser if you don´t play video games, talk about how times change something and at the same time change nothing!
