Competition is good?

Sony and Microsoft have consoles that attract people to them, usually people choose on of the two but sometimes there are people that buy both consoles. But is it really a good thing to have multiple consoles available? Wouldn´t it be better if there would just be one console and that all games are available on that console?


Do you really need competition? I think that competition does bring some good things to the table. For example you have better prices for consoles and games, because thanks to the price of the Playstation 4 the Xbox One is kind of forced to become cheaper if they want to compete. Without the Playstation 4 the price of the Xbox One will probably stay the same for quite some time. The same counts for games, which also has something to do with certain shops where they want to offer games as cheap as possible to make certain you buy your games at a certain store. So in the perspective of money it´s a good thing, because competition usually brings prices down to make it more interesting for you to buy something and I think that´s a good thing because cheaper prices means you can buy more things!


So competition is all good? No, I´d be lying if I said yes. Because competition also has an ugly side, the part where the fans battle eachother with insults and threats online. You might laugh at this, not seeing this as something serious, but in truth it´s quite sad. It´s nice if someone prefers one over the other but does that really make the other product bad? I think we all prefer something over something else and that´s ok, because we don´t all have to like the same stuff. But this dumb behaviour to attack others just because they like something else than you.


I guess you could say that competition can bring good things but there is also an ugly side to competition, perhaps you can´t have one without the other. Maybe that´s part of human nature, to react in such a way towards others. I don´t know, personally I don´t feel this way towards others. I´ve played on all consoles, sure I prefer one over the other but that doesn´t make the others bad. Hopefully one day people will earn to accept and respect eachother, well maybe one day people actually could do that but unfortunately not today...

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers? There is nothing wrong about being serious, but I think there is a time and a place for everything. Mortal Kombat X isn´t just another fighting game?

You´ve probably seen the announce trailer of Mortal Kombat X, then you probably also know that it shows two familiar characters fighting against eachother. At that point you´re probably still thinking that it´s just more of the same but with a better coat of paint, I understand that pessimist look and it´s not often wrong. But from what I´ve heard about Mortal Kombat X is that it´s going to be more than just a new game in the Mortal Kombat game series. What´s new? Apparently there will be more fighting styles for one character, giving everyone his or her own favourite style to use against opponents. There was something familiar in another Mortal Kombat game where they also had weapons in a fighting style, but this seems to go a bit deeper and more unique. Of course these are just words at this point, nothing has been proven just yet!
