Microsoft, what are you doing?

I´ve played for quite some years on my Xbox 360, I´m originally a Nintendo player that made the switch to Sony and then eventually found myself in the Microsoft ranks. My Xbox 360 is about seven and a half years old, it´s a good console and I don´t regret that I´ve never bought a Playstation 3. But now this new console, the Xbox One seems to undo all the good things the Xbox 360 stood for.


I´m not being dramatic about some technical bullshit, I´m talking about something quite simple really. I would like to know when the console will launch here, the Netherlands, so I can buy one without having to import one and not getting a warranty on it. Something Microsoft first said that they would do but then suddenly they said they wouldn´t do it, which really makes me wonder. Microsoft, what are you doing?


Ok I´m not going to pretend like I have all the answers and if I would be in charge of the whole Microsoft business then I´d probably suck even more but I take it the people there in charge should know what to do. I mean they probably learned that, studied that and have enough experience to know how to handle their business. So what´s up with all this clumsy and stupid behaviour? This is something I would´ve expected from them with their first console, Xbox, and not with their third console!


At this moment Japan gets a lot of attention for the launch of the Xbox One there, which is nice for them but now about four months after the launch of the Xbox One I still have no clue when I can expect the Xbox One in my country. I mean is that really so much to ask for? To know when I can expect a console to be available so I can buy it? If I would be selling something that my customers would want, then I´d made certain that they would know when they could get it. Not just because that´s smart but it´s also respectful towards your customers instead of leaving them in the dark. But once again a country like mine and probably many others are treated like dirt and I have no idea what´s going on, this is really something that makes me wonder if I still want to wait on the Xbox One. Oh sure I´m not going to buy a Playstation 4 out of spite but I just want to play next generation games, something Sony can already offer me and Microsoft is keeping me in the dark. I don´t like to switch between consoles all the times and I don´t want to go back to Sony, but if Microsoft keeps this up then I don´t see the point in taking this bullshit from them!

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers? There is nothing wrong about being serious, but I think there is a time and a place for everything. Mortal Kombat X isn´t just another fighting game?

You´ve probably seen the announce trailer of Mortal Kombat X, then you probably also know that it shows two familiar characters fighting against eachother. At that point you´re probably still thinking that it´s just more of the same but with a better coat of paint, I understand that pessimist look and it´s not often wrong. But from what I´ve heard about Mortal Kombat X is that it´s going to be more than just a new game in the Mortal Kombat game series. What´s new? Apparently there will be more fighting styles for one character, giving everyone his or her own favourite style to use against opponents. There was something familiar in another Mortal Kombat game where they also had weapons in a fighting style, but this seems to go a bit deeper and more unique. Of course these are just words at this point, nothing has been proven just yet!
