Your online nemesis

It´s interesting that some games actually let you have a nemesis or whatever word they use for that, because in competitive games you often already have a grudge against anyone that keeps killing you. So when a game slaps nemesis with the gamertag of that person in your face, that would be as a piece of meat in front of a hungry predator! Maybe you´re not that vengeful and you´ll actually just keep playing like nothing happened, but how much does it take when you do want to eliminate this annoying person?

Some games do it right, when someone kills you a couple of times without you killing him then it shows on the screen that this person is your nemesis and it extra helpful if there is a little symbol above their head so you know it´s him or her. A game that has this is Team Fortress 2, it´s such a fun game and even when you have a nemesis you know who it is and often also where to find him or her. But at the same time you can also see who you dominate, I´ve had sessions where I was the nemesis of six people. Of course that puts you on a lot of radars and trying to survive that might take more than I can do. In Black Ops 2 they show you after the battle who your nemesis was, so that makes it more difficult to have your revenge. Because in the next match they might be on your team or they could even leave the lobby, so then you can kiss you revenge goodbye. In GTA Online you have a message in the bottom left of the screen telling you who your nemesis is, which is nice if you´re after revenge. But do we really need this?

Does the input of a nemesis make people more agressive? I can definately see how things can go horribly wrong, constantly seeing the same guy killing you and there is nothing you can do about it. Then constantly getting the this is your nemesis message might actually make you more angry, which doesn´t really help you focus. Especially in a game like GTA Online where the score is kept between two people, just to see who died the most is quite annoying when someone keeps killing you. I don´t think anyone wants to keep seeing the same guy killing you and the 11 - 0 score that slaps you in the face. It´s not strange if you´d get mad, but I would definately recommend just backing out of the session or finding a new session. Because some people are just better than you or just better informed. You have people that try to have fun and discover things, but you also have people that run towards the gunshop and looking for a place to camp. There is very little you can do about this, so instead of getting mad it´s probably better to just evade people like that. They´re just a waste of time!

What to do if people take the vendetta further than just in the game? Of course there are always people who can´t handle defeat, they´ll accuse you of cheating or some other weak excuse. So it´s not strange to see people sending others unpleasant messages telling them just that and more. As much as you want to prove how innocent you are, it´s probably best to ignore those messages. Because they don´t see reason, if someone has to take a vendetta further than what happened in the game then you can assume that this person is just someone that can´t handle defeat that well. So nothing you can say will make him or her happy. It sucks when you lose but you must know that if you play a game then there will always be winners and losers.
