Making music with my friends
Have you ever bought one of those plastic guitars or those silly looking drums? Maybe you´re even brave enough to sing in the microphone? I don´t think it has been that long ago that this was very popular, almost every year you would see at least one of those music games and it basicly came down to you hitting the right coloured buttons on the guitar when it was shown on the screen. If you play well then the song sounds good and if you don´t do so good then the song sounds bad, if you perform bad enough then the song stops and you failed. Especially as a singer this was something that happened to me a lot! So in my band I was always the guy with the guitar. But what happened to these games?
I still have my guitars, drums and microphone in a corner of my gaming room. They´re gattering dust and I don´t see them being used any time soon. Sure it´s fun to play some music and you look like an idiot holding your plastic guitar, but really is that how you want to spend your day? I guess when you´re in the middle of a song playing your ´guitar´ then you don´t always notice it, but have you ever watched someone play that? It looks silly and I guess it´s probably something you´d want to do online instead of all sitting in front of the tv with your ´instruments´ because once someone starts laughing it´s difficult to complete the song! But it´s fun that there are things like that, something else you can do with your console. Because as much fun as a fps, race, sport or fighting game might be with your friends, I think it´s just as much fun to play music games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band with your friends.
What is the future of music games? Well lately it´s more dancing and singing that has become popular, also you have your DJ Hero and of course the more advanced type of guitar play with real strings on your guitar controller. I don´t know how long this will last, maybe it´s just a last attempt to try and get people back into music games. But I don´t think that things will ever be as they were, I mean we all move on and the time of music games is just gone. Maybe it´s for the best, because most of those games are not that different from eachother. But that didn´t make them lame, as long as you enjoy the music and have friends to play with then you´re bound to have a good time. Perhaps the new consoles bring a new type of music games, that would be interesting! But whatever happens, I don´t mind playing a bit on my plastic guitar every now and then just for fun.
