First impression of GTA Online
To be completely honest my first impression was in my GTA Online frustrations story, but I didn´t really get to play and I really do want to talk about how my first experience was in the online world of GTA V. Let me first say that it´s difficult to get in, because you´ll find failure to connect and never ending loading screens a lot. But if with some luck you do find yourself in GTA Online then you´re in for a blast, because the whole open world of GTA V is now for you and a total of 16 other players. Don´t be suprised if you meet people that have a need to kill you, because let´s just be honest and say that a lot of GTA players aren´t really the type you´d hang out with in other games. Because if the first thing you do when you go online is killing other people for no reason then you have some serious issues!
There are a lot of things you can do and with the money you find in your pocket and that you earn by robbing stores you can actually buy some new clothes and hair style if you´re unhappy with what you chose at first. Of course you could´ve change certain things in your character creation screen and I would definately recommend you to pick a good hair style and facial hair (or make-up if you´re playing as a woman) because everything you have in the character creation screen isn´t available in the game from the start. Most things are locked until you reach a certain level, this definately counts for weapons and armor. You can buy your first armor at level 5, so you might want to avoid doing anything crazy up to that point. But every time you level up you get full health and armor, so that should help you get through a difficult moment. If you´ve earned a lot of money then you can buy an appartment, which is about 90.000 in game Dollars, so that means you´ll have to save up some money. If you want to keep your money save you go to a bank, which actually means go to an ATM machine and deposit some money. Of course you can also withdraw some money, but you can pay for things with your money on the bank so there isn´t really a reason to carry a large amount of money around. I would warn you that every time the cops kill you that you have to pay a fine, about 1100 in game Dollars for me, so my first 20.000 in game Dollars were gone pretty fast.
How do I earn money? You can try to earn money by robbing stores, but remember that this will instantly alert the cops and that can easily go up to 4 stars from the start. I don´t think I have to tell you that it´s difficult to shake off 4 stars, especially when other players are also hunting you down. Every now and then you´ll also get a message that a crate is inbound (the green circle on the map will show where it will drop on the map), when it drops you´ll see a green crate on the map and you can go there for a free weapon, some money and xp. If you´re more into cars you can sometimes deliver cars to Simeon, he´ll contact you about cars he wants and you´ll see green cars on the map every now and then which you can deliver to Simeon by the docks. This actually gives you a good amount of money, but once again other players are your biggest enemy as they can easily damage the car or kill you on your way to the docks. Of course you can also play in certain games modes like races, deathmatch, team deathmatch or parachuting. The good thing about races and parachuting is that you can also do this solo, so if you don´t feel like playing with others you can just do this by yourself. But most activities in GTA Online will require more than one player to start, even simple things like tennis or arm wrestling. You don´t compete against bots, it´s always against other players. But you also have survival, here you do work together with other players and you have to survive ten waves of enemies. This is actually not that easy, so come prepared when you try this! You can also get money by killing enemies or even other players, but I wouldn´t encourage such behaviour. Sometimes players get a bounty on their head, I don´t really know if this is randomly or when you´ve done enough bad things in the game to upset someone. I do know that once you have the bounty on your head other players will hunt you down, at least if they´re paying attention. I got a bounty of 5000 in game Dollars on my head, but I stayed alive for 24 in game hours (which is 24 minutes). That actually earns me some nice xp and also helps you unlock new items for customization.
How do I level up? Well a lot of things earn you xp, killing others is probably the easiest way to earn xp but it doesn´t earn you that much. Robbing stores does get you a decent amount of xp at first, the counts for participating in races or other matches. The better you perform the more xp and money you get. But also losing the cops gets you xp or doing some insane stunts with your vehicle, so don´t be afraid to try things. Of course you can also do missions, but for most of these missions you need other players. So far I haven´t encountered a mission I could do solo and I can´t say I´ve had positive experiences with missions that I did with other people. I tried some missions but every time I lost instantly, so I don´t know if that mission is bugged or if the other player was cheating (it was a competitive mission). Whatever happened that wasn´t that much fun, so I can´t say much about missions in GTA Online. As I described above you can also earn xp for delivering cars to Simeon and grabbing packages. I would like to warn you about packages though, often these are protected by enemies and don´t be suprised if other players are trying to get it as well.
I think we all know how to create a character, that was one of the things I could do even when I couldn´t get into GTA Online. But to sum it up, you have to select how your grand parents look in the game and that will determine the look of your parents in the game. Then the look of your parents will determine the look of your character in the game, it´s a weird process but it´s not that bad. You can also select a famous dad, so far I´ve seen Claude (from GTA III) and John Marston (from Red Dead Redemption). You can determine the skills of your character by giving hours to activities. So more hours in legal work will make you better at sneaking and flying, but more hours in illegal work will make you better at driving and shooting. Also sitting a lot of the couch will be positive for driving, but it will ruin strength and stamina. So you can try to balance it or just focus on a few skills, in the game you can increase all skills so it really doesn´t make that much of a difference. It will determine the first look of your character. So if you have a lot of hours on legal work you´ll be in a suit while illegal work means you look more like a street punk. Finally you can select a name for your character and you can into GTA Online, well if everything works. Don´t be suprised if your character is silent, because that´s just the way it is. But the mouth of your character will move when you speak into your microphone, this helps you when robbing a store (because shouting will make him give you the money faster).
Good luck trying to get in and hopefully you´ll have just as much fun as I have. If I learn more about GTA Online I´ll be certain to talk to you about it here!
