Sinful Sunday: Why are you getting mad?

Whenever I play a game I try to have fun, but you can only take that much crap in a game until you get annoyed, frustrated or even mad. This could be because of some failure in the game or other people making your life miserable in multiplayer. But is that a good reason to get mad? Probably not...

R U MAD BRO?!!!

I honestly hate it when people say this, not only do I consider these people as lazy douchebags (not typing the full word but just a letter with the same sound is something I find lazy) but it's also frustrating when people keep typing this or saying this. Most of the time they know that they're douchebags that pretty much want to annoy you and make you mad, but then have to ask you if you're mad. Surprisingly these douchebags don't like to be treated that way either. It's sometimes a contest of who can be the more annoying douchebag instead of just trying to have fun playing a game. I don't expect to be friends with everyone I meet but when did it become normal to be an asshole to others online? But instead of giving these sad sacks of shit what they want I often don't even bother to respond. If someone is being an asshole then you don't have to mention that to them, these people know what they are. So instead of getting mad just block and ignore, that saves you time and frustration.

Don't get mad, get even?

Ah yes, revenge! That feels pretty good, I must admit that I enjoy this a bit more than I would like to admit. When some immature prick is constantly teabagging you then it feels good to return the favour, especially when it's at the end of the match when he or she can't escape looking at what you're doing. Once again it's not surprising that people that try to annoy you can often not take their own type of behaviour when you treat them the way they're treating you. The amount of rage quitters I've seen after I had my revenge is just ridiculously big. I know it's not mature to get revenge but remember that a lot of games do encourage you to get revenge, there is even a name for it and that is revenge kill. So you can pretend that annoying people don't bother you and that everything is fine or you can take matters into your own hands and destroy the annoying douchebags that are trying to make your life miserable. Getting revenge isn't the most mature way of dealing with certain people online but it sure does feel good, even if it's just for a moment!

Why do you get mad?

There are a lot of reasons why someone gets mad. For me it's pretty simple because it's usually when I feel that the game is screwing me over or when people are constantly annoying you with the intent of making you mad and nothing else than that. Other people you can ignore, but when I get screwed over in a game then I really get mad quickly. For example in a boss fight where the boss takes no damage when you hit him and you die instantly because of some over the top special move that comes out of nowhere. But there are also moments where I'm almost done with a level and then the game freezes, which means I have to do the whole level again. That makes me so mad, especially when this happens a lot. I don't get physical but I do get verbal, quite loud to be honest with you. I'll shout and I scream until my my throat is sore, but even then I'll just keep going until I finally get past the frustrating moment in the game. As weird as this might sound I have to admit that it does make me feel better, because if I keep frustration bottled up it only gets worse and then the anger can escape at a moment that doesn't suit me at all. This can lead to unpleasant moments with family and friends when you keep all the frustration inside, I prefer to let it out immediately and deal with it. My neighbours might not always appreciate that but keeping frustration bottled up is much worse! So getting mad doesn't make me feel better afterwards, it also keeps me from lashing out to family or friends. I don't promote getting angry but it does feel good to blow off some steam every now and then. I play games to do that, but others might exercize or do other things that help them unwind a bit. I guess we all have our own way of dealing with frustration and stress, just don't let it hurt you or those around you by keeping it bottled in because that is just a disaster waiting to happen!
