Movie Monday: Justice League Dark
With the Justice League coming soon and the not so popular DC movies so far, Batman vs Superman and the Suicide Squad weren't really that popular and well received, I must admit that I really enjoyed watching Justice League Dark because not only does this show you some other less familiar heroes but also gives you a good story. So hopefully this is good news for DC and that things only get better from now on!
Matt is back?
If you're a fan of Constantine like me then you'll be happy to know that the voice of Constantine in Justice League Dark is performed by Matt Ryan, the actor who played John Constantine in the series with the same name that was cancelled, which is really cool! Not only is he good as Constantine it also kind of gives the fans another chapter as Constantine in this movie, sure it's animated but it's still well done. Another name you probably know now in the Justice League animated movies is Jason O'Mara doing the voice of Batman, who does a good job and eventhough he's no Kevin Conroy he's definitely better than some of the other Batman voices I've heard over the years. Another interesting actor you can hear in this movie is Jeremy Davies doing the voice for Ritchie Simpson, yes that is the same actor who played Ritchie in the show Constantine on tv. I guess you could say that Justice League Dark gives you another Constantine episode but it's animated and he's teamed up with other heroes. The main focus is on Constantine though, Batman is more of an observer at this point and the other members of the Justice League just play a very small role in this movie.
What makes this movie so good?
Apart from some of the voice actors? Well the story is good and it really makes me want to see more of this. So if there will be another Justice League Dark movie then I'm not going to complain! The interesting part of this movie is that the focus is now more on not so well known heroes and some other beings that are probably not even listed as a hero or you might never have heard of them. To name a few: Deadman (real name Boston Brand) a well known trapeze artist that died and now lives as some sort of ghost that can posses people, Swamp Thing (a force of nature), Etrigan (a demon that lives inside the knight Jason Blood and can be summoned with a rhyme) and Zatanna (a female magician that has some serious magic powers). I must admit that I'm not an expert on these characters but they're definitely interesting and give you something else than the well known heroes like Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman. Eventhough Batman plays still a pretty big role in the movie. I think DC fans should check out this movie because not only is it good but also gives you some information on other characters in the DC universe, so it's not just fun but also pretty good. I would like to add that eventhough this is an animated movie that it's probably not meant for kids. Certain parts can be pretty extreme and dark, yes the title of the movie already gives it away! But in my opinion that makes this movie just better than most of the other DC (animated) movies, this movie isn't afraid to show the darker side of the world and that not everything is good and friendly.
