Movie Monday: Doctor Strange

Super hero movies are still pretty hot so it doesn't surprise me that there are still a lot of those around, but that's not a bad thing as long as they're done right. I think that Doctor Strange is one of those movies that is done right, not that I'm an expert on Doctor Strange but the character seems real to me and not some cartoon to movie experience. It's also a great movie for people that know nothing about Doctor Strange to get a bit more familiar with him.

Who is Doctor Strange?

 As his name implies he's a doctor, but not just a doctor but more of an amazing surgeon that can do the impossible. But then after an accident he can't use his hands proper anymore and sees his future pretty grim. But then he hears about a magical place where you can heal and impossible things are possible, so Strange goes there hoping to heal his hands and go back to his old job. Except things go a bit different when he learns about magic and becomes pretty good at it himself. Of course this takes time and the movie doesn't mind making fun of the main character, which is a welcome sight because the movie has some depressing moments in my opinion. It's the humour and the characters in the movie that keep things alive!

The story is too serious?

 There were moments in the movie where I thought that the movie was a bit slow, maybe because they wanted to do things right and in the end I think it worked out just fine. But it's really the humour and silly moments that actually give the movie some fresh air and make the less exciting moments a lot more tolerable. Of course the movie can't have explosions and special effects all the time but after long conversations you do want to see something else. The start is pretty slow and if you have no idea what to expect then that can be an obstacle for you, but hold on because the movie gets better the further you're in!

Would you recommend this movie?

 I would, mostly thanks to the humour and the actors that bring life to some of the characters. I would have to admit that most of the characters in this movie were a mystery to me, I'm not that familiar with Doctor Strange comics, but that didn't take away how much fun this movie is to watch. Even if you're not really into the magical and fantasy stuff in movies  then this movie is still worth watching thanks to the actors and the funny moments. Besides this isn't really a Harry Potter movie so you don't have to worry about that! As much as you might dislike Strange at first you will realize that he's not a bad guy, he's just a guy who can be frustrating to be around at times.

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers? There is nothing wrong about being serious, but I think there is a time and a place for everything. Mortal Kombat X isn´t just another fighting game?

You´ve probably seen the announce trailer of Mortal Kombat X, then you probably also know that it shows two familiar characters fighting against eachother. At that point you´re probably still thinking that it´s just more of the same but with a better coat of paint, I understand that pessimist look and it´s not often wrong. But from what I´ve heard about Mortal Kombat X is that it´s going to be more than just a new game in the Mortal Kombat game series. What´s new? Apparently there will be more fighting styles for one character, giving everyone his or her own favourite style to use against opponents. There was something familiar in another Mortal Kombat game where they also had weapons in a fighting style, but this seems to go a bit deeper and more unique. Of course these are just words at this point, nothing has been proven just yet!
