First play the campaign before you jump into multiplayer?

You can call me old fashioned but I prefer to first play the story mode, not just because I like stories in games but also because it helps me get familiar with the game. Often the campaign has a tutorial of some sort that helps you get familiar with the controls and it also gives you some tips. If you immedately jump into multiplayer you often go in as a noob and often get slaughtered as a noob, maybe you enjoy that but I personally don't like that!

Playing the campaign first is smart?

I think it is. Why? Well you get familiar with the game, you might pick up some tricks that can help you in multiplayer and it's nice when you're not the dumbass on the team that doesn't know how to play the game. I hate being the guy on the team that sucks, because I can just feel people looking at me and probably wishing terrible things on me. I know I get that feeling every now and then when I see a level one jump into multiplayer and see he or she hasn't played the campaign. That doesn't have to be a problem but a lot of times people will just be bad, I mean really bad as in hardly get any kills and die a lot. Of course we all have to learn the game at one point but isn't it smarter to first get familiar with the game a bit in the campaign before you try out multiplayer? Multiplayer will still be there when you're done with the campaign and you're a more experienced player at that point so the bit of extra experience people might have on you, other people that immediately jumped into multiplayer, shouldn't make a lot of difference in a match. Playing the campaign is also a good way to earn some extra achievements or trophies and sometimes you can also unlock some cool stuff you can use in multiplayer. So playing the campaign is not a bad idea, it's actually a smart idea!

Jumping immediately into multiplayer is dumb?

Some people might disagree but I think it's a dumb move, just look at a game like Rainbow Six Siege. I see so many times people that only have one or two operators unlocked because they immediately jumped into multiplayer without first playing through the training missions or played some terrorist hunt. You can even watch some tutorial videos for some renown so you can unlock an operator. But no some people don't have time for that, they immediately jump into multiplayer and are forced to play as a recruit (a pretty useless character in multiplayer compared to the other operators) and they will most likely not be very useful in the fight. I don't know why people are always in such a hurry but if people would just spend a bit more time on something else than multiplayer they would have more operators to choose from, since only one person on your team can play as a certain operator, and you wouldn't be forced to play as a recruit. But there are more multiplayer games that are full of people that competely ignore the campaign and go straight for multiplayer, which often lead to a lot of rookies that absolutely suck at the game. Eventhough sometimes it can't be avoided, I mean if you play Overwatch you will have to jump into multiplayer because that's all there is. But you could practice on some bots or train a bit at the shooting range before you jump into multiplayer, eventhough most people will most likely skip that. I know we all play games on our own way but sometimes it would be nice if people would first get some experience in the campaign before they jump into multiplayer. That could save you some embarrassment in multiplayer and hopefully make your multiplayer experience a bit more succesful.
