Movie Monday: Inferno
Do you like to read books? Well I like to read books but sometimes I get lazy and I prefer to see the movie, which probably makes me an uncultured savage but the thing is that sometimes that's not a bad thing when the movie is pretty good. Does that make Inferno good? Well...maybe.
The third one is the charm?
Inferno is the third movie in the Robert langdon series, previous movies are the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, and is based on the book with the same name written by Dan Brown. So far so good you might think and you would be right because Inferno fits pretty good in the series, mostly thanks to the actors and the puzzling start of the movie. At the beginning of the movie Robert Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with no memory of what happened to him or how he got there. There is no time for figuring that out because immediately an assassin is trying to kill him and his doctor helps him escape. Together they stumble on a deadly plan to wipe out half of the population on Earth. So it's up to Robert Langdon and Sienna Brooks (the doctor that helped him to escape from the hospital) to stop this deadly plan before it's too late!
Good story, better actors?
You won't hear me complain about the actors. Once again Tom Hanks plays the role of Robert Langdon and there are no complaints about me, maybe he's getting a bit old but then again with some movie magic people usually look a bit less old on screen. But I wouldn't call this a problem, besides a young Robert Langdon wouldn't really fit. Felicity Jones plays as Sienna Brooks and has a more interesting role, I won't spoil anything but she has an interesting part that came as a surprise to me. The story is a bit messy at the start but maybe that's meant to be that way since Robert can't remember what happened to him so you as the viewer also get a bit confused with him. That's a bit annoying at times but all will be explained later in the movie. The big twist and secret reveals are a bit unexpected, for example I didn't see the twist coming and the secret reveals are once again molded into some great stories and historical characters from the past. Maybe this isn't the best movie in the trilogy but it's absolutely fun to watch, at least for the first time.
Should you watch this movie?
If you like mysteries and also seen the two previous movies then Inferno might be something for you. I would advice you to keep in mind that the movie isn't that long so certain parts are a bit rushed in my opinion. Some might like that but others might not like that, some people prefer a mystery to unfold slowly but in Inferno there are moments where things go really fast. This isn't a bad thing in my opinion though, mostly because it keeps things going and doesn't make the viewer bored at certain moments. As much fun as certain investigations are it's also fun to see some action and there is actually quite a lot of that in this movie. So I can't say I would complain about this movie, but at the same time I would have to admit that after seeing it once I don't feel like seeing again for quite some time. Not that it's a bad movie but once you know what happens it's not something you have to see again to understand what exactly happened or if you could've seen it coming.
