YouTube adventures part -48- You don't need videos about games?

When you're looking for gameplay, game trailers, tips and tricks for certain games or achievement and trophy guides then you can find a lot of those on YouTube, perhaps too many. But games are popular and people that want their channel to grow will often hope that their game channels will grow fast and that they have more succes that way. But you don't need to play games or make videos about games to become succesful on YouTube. This might surprise you but considering that there are already a lot of game channels and there are a lot of people interested in other things than gaming, you might ask yourself...

You don't need videos about games to become succesful on YouTube?

Well that's true, there are several people that have thousands of subscribers and don't have any game related videos on their channel. Some have music on their channel, which is risky because of copyright, and others make vlogs or information videos about other subjects. For example there are people that give tips for make-up, when you want to travel to another country, learning another language, if you need help with your exams or other school related things and there are also historic channels where people shows you footage from several decades ago (or maybe even older footage) to give you a glimpse in the past.

My point is that you don't need to be a gamer or have game related videos to become succesful on YouTube. But you can't deny that several big channels, including the biggest channel with more than fifty million subscribers, have a lot of game related videos. That might make you want to try that as well but you should keep in mind  that there are already a lot of game related channels. Some people focus on multiplayer gameplay, then there are people that focus more on single player walkthroughs, there are achievement/trophy guides, people that make videos where they review or just talk about certain games and there are people that play games with their friends and share this with people on YouTube.

If you have another idea instead of gaming then I would strongly advice you to try that out instead of creating another game channel. If I was more talented and creative I know that I would've done more with my channel, unfortunately I'm not and it's easier for me to record some gameplay instead of going out and record something else. It also helps if you have the right equipment, for example a shitty camera, like mine, isn't the best for recording certain things. I doubt mine is even suited for recording my gameplay but I never started with my channel to make fancy videos. But it's nice when you can make at least decent quality videos. The last thing you want is to record things that look like crap and make people want to run away from your channel.

Don't be afraid to try new things because sometimes it really pays off to try something new instead of following the majority down the same road. Sure gaming might be a safe topic and a lot of people are interested in that. But you should also keep in mind that there are already thousands if not millions of game related channels, so trying to get noticed there might be difficult. But if you would be someone that makes other type of videos then there is a bigger chance that you have less competition and you could actually be more succesful. I'm not going to tell you what you should do, but you might want to keep in mind that originality isn't a bad thing!
