What is a gamer?
Whenever I ask someone who doesn't play games what they think a gamer looks like then you get some interesting answers, eventhough some people will give you the typical answers of some fat kid that lives in his mother's basement. But what is a gamer really and can people recognize you as a gamer just by looking at you?
Looks don't mean a thing?
The whole gamers are fat or nerds idea is really something from the 80's and early 90's. If you've seen YouTubers that play games then you know that not everyone is fat or looks like a nerd. But what does a nerd look like? Is that some awkward person with glasses on or just someone that enjoys playing games and spending most of his or her time on a computer? The thing is that looks don't have to mean a thing because someone can look like they're a model and still spend a lot of time playing games. Does that make him or her also a nerd? It's easy to judge and even easier to be an asshole to others. The problem is that a lot of people are judged by the way they look, which is stupid but unfortunately the way this world seems to work. Just keep in mind that looks don't have to mean a thing, people aren't defined by the way they look no matter how easy it is to pass judgement!

In the gaming community this means different things, because some people consider someone a gamer when they spend at least 6 to 8 hours a day on gaming, which is of course ridiculous considering a lot of people have school or work and that makes it hard to live up to that standard. Then there are also people that like to have their face on camera and will try to lure attention to themselves with a Twitch channel and pretend to be a gamer. Now I'm not saying that an attractive person can't play games or be considered as a gamer, but if you spend more time with your face in front of the camera instead of actually playing games then I think that you're an attention seeker instead of a gamer. But what is a gamer then? In my opinion a gamer is someone that enjoys playing games, wether that is single player or multiplayer, console or pc and a gamer is someone that just tries to have fun playing games. That means that a lot of people are considered as gamers, yes even people that have a Nintendo DS that spend an hour a week on that thing. But does it really matter who is a gamer and who isn't? I remember the time when gaming wasn't considered as cool, so all this crap about people having to live up to certain conditions to be considered as a gamer just sound stupid to me. Just have fun and play games, I think that's what makes you a gamer!
