Movie Monday: Jack Reacher: Never go back
Have you seen the movie Jack Reacher? It's a pretty good action movie from 2012 and shows Tom Cruise playing as a badass crime fighter, eventhough he is more a type of investigator that solves problems. Is that a good way to describe Jack Reacher? Well let's say it is. In 2016 the sequel, Jack Reacher: Never go back, is trying to keep you in the action from the previous movie but add a bit more mystery to it. But is that a good combination?
Tom is getting too old for this shit?
To be totally honest I don't think so, sure you can see he's a bit older but he can still kick ass. Besides it would be weird to see a different actor playing as Jack Reacher after the first movie because I think Tom Cruise did a great job as Jack Reacher. But the problem I have with Jack Reacher: Never go back is that the movie is a bit divided. On one hand you follow Jack and his friend (maybe love interest) Major Susan Turner, who has been accused of treason and they try to find out who the real traitor is while avoiding the police. Then there is also the teenage girl that shows up and could be Jack Reacher's daughter, which adds some emotional moments to the movie. As interesting as that might be for some people I have to admit that I didn't expect that nor was I looking for that in this movie. It adds some unnecessary complications and moments in the movie I don't think the story needed. But that's my opinion.
More drama and less action?
No not really, you get plenty of action and I think that the sequel is trying to beat the first movie with all the action but while doing that it kind of makes me lose interest in these action moments. It's not that it's a boring movie but I would've loved to see more mystery instead of action, I mean if you choose to add something extra then add something extra and not leave that half baked in the movie. The hand to hand combat looks pretty good and it also makes Jack look a bit more human, because in the previous movie it was almost as if no one could touch him and now things are a bit less fortunate for Jack. So I do like that, because no matter how much fun it is to see the hero win it kind of sucks when he wins without even breaking sweat.
Is this movie worth checking out?
I think it is, sure it's not an amazing movie but it's still absolutely enjoyable to watch. Wether you like to see Tom Cruise kicking ass or maybe you're more a fan of Cobie Smulders, playing as Major Susan Turner, kicking ass. It's all in the movie and it's definitely not a bad movie, the movie is just a bit different than I expected so maybe that's why I'm a bit less excited about it. But that absolutely doesn't make it a bad movie, so feel free to check it out if you haven't done so already.
