Playing games for achievements/trophies?
Have you ever heard one of your friends tell you that a game was fun and when you played it the game wasn't that much fun? So when you asked him or her why it was so much fun it turned out he or she got a lot of easy achievements/trophies in that game. That kind of makes me wonder, do achievements/trophies equal fun or is this just something that only some people find interesting?
Achievement/trophy hunters play games for achievements/trophies and not fun?
I don't think that's true, mostly based on my own experience as an achievement hunter. As much as I like to get achievements I don't buy games just to boost my total achievement score nor do I rate games on how easily I get achievements in them. It makes no sense at all to do that and you pretty much spread false information that way. Oh yeah this game is amazing just because you can get a thousand gamerscore in a day or two, yes truly amazing but it doesn't mean that the game is fun nor does it look like this game will keep you busy for a long time. That doesn't mean that games you can perfect, which means getting all achievements/trophies are garbage. Especially if it takes you some time to get all the achievements/trophies. For example it took me a couple of weeks to get all the achievements in Skyrim and Final Fantasy XV but it's worth it and they're both fantastic games. But there are also games, I can't come up with an example because I usually try to avoid these type of games, that are so easy that you finish them in a day and you can easily get all achievements/trophies in that game. That doesn't look like fun to me...
Is it such a bad thing to play games for achievements/trophies?
In my opinion it's not a bad thing, but I wouldn't call it a smart thing either because if you play games only for achievements/trohpies then you're missing out on a lot of fun! I like getting achievements but I never let that keep me from doing other things or just playing the game for fun. If I can earn some achievements while playing a game then I'll do that, but I won't go out of my way to get all the achievements because that just looks like a waste of time to me and it usually goes at the expense of having fun in the game. Just think of having to grind in a game like crazy just to get an achievement or trophy, do you really think that's worth it? I don't think it's worth it but some people will do whatever it takes to get certain achievements/trophies. Well if it makes you happy then it can't be a bad thing, right?
