Sinful Sunday: Playing for fun is stupid?
You have all types of gamers, some play for fun and there are some that play to win. But is it possible that you both play for fun and play to win? Well it's possible, but that would mean that you win every match and that you're succesful. Which means the moment things go wrong, as in you start losing and failing, that you're not having fun anymore. But the real question is, is playing for fun stupid when you play ranked multiplayer?
Playing for fun is stupid?
I don't think it's stupid, mostly because I play for fun and consider having fun more important than winning. At the same time I have to admit that I have more fun with games when I win, so there is definitely a connection for me. Because no matter how much fun a game is when you keep losing and failing then you're not going to have a lot of fun. So even if you play for fun you still would like to succeed, to win and to get things done. Because I feel a lot better when I get achievements, beat a difficult boss or win a tough multiplayer match. That doesn't mean that because I like to win I don't know how to have fun, it's just for me important to win as well. Especially when the opponents aren't that good or when there are achievements to be earned! I like earning achievements and getting other rewards, so yeah winning is important to me too but I still consider myself to be someone that plays for fun. Because I'm not a pro gamer and I don't hang around in ranked multiplayer a lot. So for me having fun is still my main motivation to play games and I doubt that I'm the only one.
It's better to play for fun?
I think it is better to play for fun instead of playing to win, because the disapppointments will really make your life miserable if you play to win. No matter how amazing you are at a game you will eventually lose and sometimes you lose a lot, if all you care about is winning then you're going to have a bad time. My advice is to focus more on having fun, this still means you can care about winning but just focus more on having a good time. Which sometimes means doing silly things, playing a bit differently and put less focus on winning everything. I know that it's fun to win, but dealing with defeat will be much harder when all you care about is winning. Play games for fun and things should be more fun because you focus more on having a good time instead of trying to win everything there is to win. Winning isn't everything, having fun is a much better motivation and keeps you a lot more entertained even when things don't go your way.
