Movie Monday: Rogue One: A Star Wars story

Rogue One is a bit of a weird movie in the Star Wars universe because it's not numbered (the others all have Roman numerals in them) and there are no jedi in this movie. This seems a bit weird and at times kind of makes you forget that this is a Star Wars movie, but it most definitely is a Star Wars movie and shows the viewers how the plans for the Death Star were stolen. Is that an interesting story? I think it is!

Not your typical Star Wars movie?

You can say that, especially when you keep in mind that the movie leans more on the lives of ordinary men and women doing something extrodinary. I mean there is no jedi that will carve the way to freedom or an unkillable hero that seems to survive the impossible odds. This is a movie with men and women that believe in something and try to make it happen. But before you get to that point you get some background information for the main protagonist, Jyn Erso, and follow her and some other people before they get to that important mission. This movie also shows a different side of the rebels, a side that I didn't see in the original trilogy, which made me look a bit different at them because it shows that no one is without faults and that even in those that claim to be good there can still be some darkness.

So no jedi and no sith?

No jedi, but there is a sith! That's right Darth Vader has a small role in the movie and you even see him in action, as in he kills rebels. It's odd though a Star Wars movie where the main focus is on people without any force abilities. Ok maybe the blind man might have some force abilities or he is just very gifted. One of the things I really like about Star Wars movies are the lightsaber battles, so not having that in this movie is a bit rough but at the same time it does make sense why this isn't in the movie. This is definitely not a bad movie though, it's just a bit different. Besides seeing Darth Vader makes up for a lot, I'm really glad they added him to the movie and even seeing him in action.

Is this movie worth checking out?

I think it is, especially if you love the original trilogy and you want to know how the rebels got the plans of the Death Star. This takes place just before Star Wars IV: A new hope, so I think a lot of people that love the original trilogy will like this as well but also for people that are new to the Star Wars universe. Especially for new viewers this might be an excellent movie to start with because it shows no spoilers of the other movies and fits in nicely in front of the original trilogy. Chronologically you should start with Star Wars I: The phantom menace, but Rogue One is also a good start in my opinion.
