Saying gamer girl to someone is offensive?
It never surprises me how some people get really upset over something as silly as this, it's not that I don't understand but it does kind of make me wonder what went wrong with this person to get angry over something like that. I'm not saying that it's cool to just say anything to anyone, but I bet most people that call a girl or woman that plays games a gamer girl doesn't mean any offense with it. Somehow some people feel like biting your head off just for saying it though.
Gamer girl is an offensive way of saying that a girl or woman likes to play games?
I don't think it is, but I'm not a woman so I doubt my opinion really matters here. I would like to say that it's probably better to just call all gamers exactly what they are, gamers. Why make someone a gamer girl? Then you are clearly pointing out that this person is a female. Does that really matter? I don't think it matters because we're all playing games for fun so gender doesn't and shouldn't play a role. But if some guy calls a girl a gamer girl then I wouldn't always assume the worst. Some women actually don't mind being called a gamer girl and others wear it even as a badge of honour. Just keep in mind that not every girl or woman likes to be called a gamer girl! Especially when women get a bit older then it's kind of silly to call them a gamer girl, because when you're 30, 40 or over 50 then it's kind of weird that you're being called a gamer girl. So to keep it safe you stick with calling someone a gamer, no matter what their gender is. If someone prefers to be called a gamer girl then she will most likely let you know, if not then you stick with gamer. That way you can avoid some rant about what you should and shouldn't say.
Are there also gamer boys?
There could be, but no one ever calls a guy a gamer boy. I think mostly because it's expected that most gamers are guys so why add boy to that? But did you know that there are also a lot of women that play games? You might not always see them or hear them but they're there! If someone would call me a gamer boy then I'd probably laugh because I don't care what other people say to me. But I bet some guys wouldn't like being called a gamer boy, so maybe keep that in mind when you talk to a girl or woman that plays games. You could always try to go for different names. For example: female gamer, gamer woman, grandma gamer or female that plays games. It all sounds a bit lame, so I understand why some people like to call themselves or call others gamer girls. But instead of saying gamer girl you could also just call someone a gamer because in the end that's what we all are.
