Sinful Sunday: Teabagging is for losers?
Recently I heard that teabagging was going to be forbidden in championships, at least in the Killer Instinct championship, and I read that there were also talks about this in the Rainbow Six Siege eSports championships to get players banned if they teabag others. So the question really is, should teabagging be forbidden or is it just harmless fun?
Teabagging is for losers?
I often indentify teabagging with immature losers, people that have to humiliate an opponent because they want to annoy this person or just think it's funny. But if you teabag this person then they go out of their minds and ignore the entire team just to get back at you. So I do recognize some sad sack of shit behaviour in teabagging, which is why I often don't get involved in it. If someone teabags me I just ignore that, who the fuck cares about that anyway? Well a lot of people, because the moment teabagging was supposedly forbidden in championships people freaked the fuck out! Suddenly people who claimed that it was just for fun defended this as if it was their right to do so. And they're not wrong, it shouldn't be forbidden but I still think it's a childish way of showing you beat someone. In a lot of ranked videos I see on YouTube hardly any YouTuber teabags, at least if you look at players of mature players. So is teabagging for losers? Well let's just say it's for people who are immature and want to troll others, which means that there are a lot of people that teabag unfortunately.
What makes teabagging so annoying?
I think that's not exactly the same for everyone but I personally find it stupid when you play a game like Rainbow Six Siege, a game with strategy and more realistic gameplay and then one of the operators starts teabagging. It destroys the illusion of you being in a battle, it brings you back to the playground where people do sad things like this. I know it's just a game but it's nice when you can just lose yourself in a game for a moment. Just wash away all the crap of reality for a moment and just have fun. Others see teabagging as a form of bullying and a lot of people don't accept that and will want revenge. I get that as well and I know I have done that as well, but the thing is that you end up being just as sad as the person that was teabagging you. I know it feels good to get revenge but you should keep in mind that the person that keeps teabagging you is most likely a kid that has nothing better to do with his or her life and has teabagging other people in games in his most awesome moments of the day list. What also irritates people is the smug behaviour, as if it was easy to kill you in that game. That also annoys people and they want revenge, not to teabag that person but just to show them how easy they can be beaten as well. I just doubt that there are winners in teabagging, the person that gets teabagged isn't a winner and if you're the one that teabags then it pretty much shows how much of a loser you actually are. So even if you win you lose.
Should teabagging be forbidden?
I don't think it belongs in competitive multiplayer, maybe in a game for kids but as mature players I expect mature behaviour eventhough a lot of games for adults have kids in them. I'm not saying that kids aren't mature, some kids can be mature, but I just wouldn't expect a lot of mature behaviour from them. But I think forbidden is wrong, because you take away the freedom of doing things that some people consider as fun, especially when you play against your friends this can be a good way to annoy them. It's often just frustrating when some random douchebag does this online. So maybe give players that teabag a lot a surprise, like give them a teabag for a head when they teabag a lot. That way people can recognize a teabagger and if they feel like getting revenge they can do that but at the risk of getting a teabag head themselves. I think there is a place for a lot of things in games, I just wish that certain things, like teabagging, didn't have such a big place in games. But it's mostly the fault of immature players, not the developers that often don't encourage this type of behaviour.
