Game tip: State of Decay (for Xboxlive gold members)

If you have Xboxlive and you're a gold member then you can buy State of Decay for 12 Euros and get all the dlc with it. This means you got some zombie killing, post apocalypse survival and a lot of fun all in one! Sure the game is from 2015 but that doesn't make it a bad game, this is one of the best zombie games out there in my opinion!

This is a zombie survival game?

You could say that, especially when you think about the fact that your character can die and when he or she dies he or she stays dead and you will have to play with another survivor. So it's smart to keep everyone healthy! The moment you're hurt (you take a lot of damage) or you're tired (you've been playing as the same character for a long time) then it's a smart idea to swap to another character. Besides it's a good thing to have more than one strong, fast and smart character. You need to find supplies to keep your community happy, because when people get unhappy your morale drops and the further that drops the more people will leave. There are multiple ways of playing but you should really stick to cars, not only does this get you faster from one point to the other they're also pretty good against zombies. Searching houses is actually a lot of fun because you actually go through a search animation that takes a moment and you can be attacked during that moment, if you decide to search faster you make more noise and this attracts more zombies so there is a risk and reward system at work here but in my opinion it's better to search at normal speed.

So every character is a playable character?

Not every character, some characters are part of the story and might die or will play another role. What's really fun is that each character has his or her own personality and specialities. So playing as one character might mean you're better at fighting, another character is better at running and then there are also people that can search much faster than others. You can improve these skills so it's not that a weak character can never be strong, but it will take a moment before this character will be strong and the same counts for other traits! You should also keep in mind that all the characters share the weapons and other items, so if one character carries a certain weapon that you like then you have to swap it back into the locker so another character can pick it up.

Nothing is for free?

Nope, not even when zombies are roaming on the Streets! But instead of paying for things with money you can make trades, NPCs suggest this and you just need to escort them to the location, or you can get things from the locker in a base and you pay for these items with fame. You earn fame by completing missions or getting supplies, the more fame you have the more stuff you can get. You can also invite another member of your community to go with you and this will also cost you fame. The best thing about this is that you can easily earn more, just get more supplies or complete some missions. You can also gain more fame by adding items to the locker, you can see what each item is worth so you can actually stack up a lot of fame if you find some powerful weapons and you don't have ammo for these weapons. Instead of carrying that around you can also store them in the locker and get a lot of fame for it.

Is this game worth checking out?

Absolutely! If you like zombie survival games and you like series like the Walking Dead and Z Nation then you're in for a blast with State of Decay! Sometimes things become a bit repetitive but with a lot of playable characters and two other game modes Breakdown and Life line you won't be bored any time soon. It's very addictive actually to just scout into the towns and find supplies, before you know it you're playing the game for hours! It starts easy so you don't have to worry about being overwhelmed from the start, just keep in mind that you should know your limitations and also remember that it's sometimes smarter to run than to stand and fight!
