Sinful Sunday: Online gaming. The good, the bad and the ugly.

In case you don't know this is an amazing movie, but I'm not talking about the movie but people you meet in online gaming. You have all types of people that play games and when you play games online with others there's a good chance that you meet these different types of people. Some you'll like, others you won't like and there might even be some you'll hate. But what does that say about you? Are you such a delight to play games with? You get what you deserve? Let's say that you're a douchebag in games, you're not nice to other people and so other people aren't nice to you. You probably get upset that other people aren't nice and will yell at them for whatever reason you can find because you lost a round or the entire match. Of course it's easy to blame others but what a lot of people don't realize is that when you play in a team you also have to play as a team. If your team doesn't play as a team then it will be a lot harder ...

We happy few (game), what the hell?

I've played weird games, I've played disturbing games and I've even played awkward games. But I don't know what to call We happy few. It's a game where the world is weird, but at the same time seems to work in a way. Except it's a world that's only acceptable if you take a certain drug and when your character decides to stop taking that drug you turn back to normal and the world notices that and doesn't like it! So is there are story? Yes there is a story, get the fuck out of England! Ok that's a bit easy, let's just say that you no longer take the drug that makes weird and disturbing things look normal and see the world for what it is and the other people that do take the drug don't like that and will try to stop you from escaping. Seems simple, but it's not! Not only do you have to sneak your way to victory, sometimes you'll have to take the drug to fool the people around you that you're just like them, but take too much of ...

Youtube adventures part 29

On several big channels you hardly ever see the youtuber responding to comments on his or her video. Does that mean that he or she doesn't care what other people have to say or are they expecting that much hate that they just don't bother reading the comments anymore? Then there's also the chance that the youtuber is just busy and doesn't have time to always read the comments. Whatever the reason, it's important that you stay in touch with your viewers, because if you just blindly post videos then you seem to be very detached and if you actually take the time to respond then people at least know that you care enough to read what you have to say. Staying in touch with your viewers. It might seem weird but it's important, because if you never respond and you never say anything to the viewers then it feels even weirder for people to watch your videos because it seems too much of a one way street. Of course a youtuber can't respond to every comment but it...

Game tip: Metal Gear Solid V the Phantom Pain

If you like stealth and an interesting story then Metal Gear Solid V might be something for you. But seriously if you like these things then why haven't you bought the game already?!!! Right now there's a sweet deal on Xboxlive where you can get Metal Gear Solid V for 20 Euros and Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes (some type of demo but it's part of the story) for 5 Euros. Those are some sweet deals and really something good to help you get through the Summer because this is the type of game that keeps you busy for quite some time if you want to get a lot of achievements! What's so special about Metal Gear Solid V? First of all it's a Metal Gear Solid game, so you know that it's going to be good, but of course there are no guarantees and Metal Gear Solid V definitely has some issues. But in all honesty it's a fun stealth game that works for both stealth players but also people that prefer to go in guns blazing, the mission usually gets tougher though when...

I don't want the story to end!

You probably expect this from people that read books, watch movies or series. But did you know that some gamers feel the same way? This feeling that you don't want the game to end, that there will be a new adventure and new things to do. I guess dlc can give players that but sooner or later the story will end and then there's emptiness...or not? Games have stories that never end? Well not exactly, because everything that has a beginning also has an ending. But you can always play the game again, which is fun with some games. Especially games that let you customize the main character and so you can create multiple characters that are all unique and hopefully give you a unique playthough in the game. Dlc also keeps games alive a bit longer, they sometimes offer new stories and adventures to the already known game world. Unfortunately not every piece of dlc is worth buying and it's still delaying the inevitable. If you're really lucky the story will continue in a seque...

Dlc that breaks a game

I like dlc, I like getting new things and expanding my game world with new stuff. What I don't like is things that mess up my game, up to the point where it's unpleasant to play the game. For example with Dragon Age Inquisition I was playing the descent dlc and that is so buggy that it was almost impossible to play. So many broken parts where the game just freezes, where enemies are in walls or the game lags like crazy. The rest of the game is fine but the descent dlc is horrible! Which really makes you wonder, do I really need this? Dlc can break a game? It doesn't always break the game, but it can ruin things. For example a story that makes no sense and makes your character or other characters in the game look stupid or weird. What's probably the worst is when dlc gives you more questions than answers, because then you really have to ask yourself why the developers would put that in the game. It's for that reason that I don't always automaticly buy dlc and...

Game tip: Pay Day 2 Crimewave edition

This game tip is a bit late but you should be able to buy it, if you really want to, before Tuesday when the offer on Xboxlive ends for gold members. Because getting this game for 12 Euros is a pretty sweet deal! Because you don't just get Pay Day 2 but also all the crimewave stuff with it as well. Which means new characters, weapons, missions and other stuff. What makes this game fun to play? It's fun because you can do something different, instead of being the good guy trying to stop bad guys from doing bad things you play as a bad guy robbing other people. This can happen in a store or in a huge bank, but there's a lot of different stuff in between. For example robbing a train, helping a member of your crew escape from jail and stealing cargo from a ship. These are just some examples of the new missions in Pay Day 2 Crimewave edition and it's sometimes quite a challenge to complete these missions, especially when you play solo! But why play solo when you can play...

Sinful Sunday: Pretending to be someone you're not

I think a lot of people sometimes wish they were someone else, maybe not completely someone else but that they would be braver, stronger, smarter or faster. But there are also people that wish they would be a celebrity, not just any celebrity but a certain celebrity and that can sometimes lead to  quite extreme actions. For example people that not just dress and act like a certain celebrity, they even have cosmetic surgery so they look even more like their favourite celebrity. But these are just a few examples of people that pretend to be someone they're not. When you play games you sometimes also deal with pretenders, but these are usually a bit less extreme. What kind of pretenders do you meet online? Well there are those that pretend to be someone they're not, for example a woman (sometimes this can also be a man) that pretends to be someone else and has also pictures of the person they pretend to be. But in fact this person is someone else and they just pretend to be t...

Games affect you more than you know?

I don't think most gamers realize how much they can be affected by games. Now let me immediately say that I don't think that games make you agressive or hostile towards others, but I do think that they can make you happy or sometimes sad. For example when you play a game with an interesting story and characters that you care for then it matters to you what happens to these characters. So when one of the characters dies you're sad and when they're having fun together you're having fun. But how far do these feelings go and are the affects dangerous? There's nothing wrong with caring about the characters? I don't think so, I actually think it's natural to feel that way. To care about characters in a game you like to play, because they're a part of the world you play in and that makes it also a part of you in a way. So it's only natural to care about some characters. I doubt anyone wants to see characters he or she cares about die, but sometimes ...

Youtube adventures part 28

Some people say that you should stop with youtube at a certain age, I don't agree with that because why would age stop you from making videos? Maybe it seems weird when a guy who is 50 talk about his passion for games but I don't think it's something you should be ashamed for nor should you be intimidated by people who say that you're too old and should leave youtube. It's ridiculous because you decide when you stop with youtube and no one else! Age doesn't mean a thing on youtube? When it comes to making videos then I'd say it doesn't mean a thing, because age shouldn't restrict you from making fun videos or doing something you like. So what if you're 10 and people think you have an annoying voice, if there's something you want to say or make a video about something then you do that. The same counts for people who are a bit older than the average youtuber, don't let that stop you from making a video you want to make. Most people th...

Batman: the Telltale games series

If you played one of the previous titles of Telltale games then you know how good these games can be. I mean just look at the Walking Dead game, the Wolf Among Us and the Game of Thrones game. These are all great games with interesting stories and characters, but what does this mean for the Batman game? Well it means that there will be a bigger concentration on talking instead of fighting, but that won't make this a boring game. I think that this gives you a unique perspective on the life of Bruce Wayne and Batman, something we haven't seen before in a game. You play as Bruce Wayne and Batman? Yes, during the day you play as Bruce Wayne and at night you play as Batman. This probably means that things are connected, so things you do as Bruce Wayne might influence your adventures as Batman and vice versa. So you can expect once more choices that will have a huge impact on the game and not everyone will like those choices. If this means you can make new friends and/or enemies...

How to survive the hot days of Summer while playing games

I hate Summer, I really hate how it's bloody hot and that every little thing I do already makes me sweat like crazy. So it's very tempting to turn on your computer or console and just play games, keep your activities to a minimum and just have a good time doing something you like to do. But is it a smart to play games when it's so hot? When it's hot you should go outside? This is probably what your parents would tell you as a kid but in truth I don't that this is always a good idea. Sometimes it's so hot that being outside isn't really that safe, because the hot sun can leave its marks on you if you stay too long in the open sun. So without proper protection you might be in trouble. So maybe staying inside and drinking a cool drink might be a better idea than hanging around outside. If you do decide to stay inside then why wouldn't you play games? Sure you can look outside or watch tv, but as a gamer you probably prefer to play games. At least that...

Why would you use stealth in a game?

I hate stealth, well to be totally honest I used to hate stealth. I just prefer to run into battle and beat the shit out of enemies. It's not super exciting but it's fun and I think that's the most important part about gaming! But when you give stealth gameplay a chance then you can be in for a surprise because stealth can sometimes make things just as fun as charging into battle! What makes stealth gameplay so much fun? I like how you can kill everyone in an area and no one ever knew you were there, until it was too late of course. It also gives you a rush to kill enemies in a game and get away with it, so nobody saw you do it and nobody could stop you. Sure it's fun to charge into battle and attack everyone but eliminating them one by one can be just as much fun. Sure it takes more time but with some experience you can do it pretty quick. But stealth will often require patience, so charging into battle is hardly ever the way to go for stealth. Maybe as a last desp...

Diverse gaming

There are several ways of playing games, most people will pick a game and play this game until they've finished it or when they're done with it (they don't want to play it anymore). But do you know that there are also gamers out there that will actively switch things up? So one day they'll play this game and another day they'll play another game, sometimes they'll play up to four or five different games on one day. That probably seems exhausting to you but for some people this is normal. What is diverse gaming exactly? I don't think this is the official name for it but I call it diverse gaming because you keep things interesting and switch things up a bit, that should keep games from getting boring too fast and it keeps things a bit fresh. Because if you play the same game every day for a week then you're probably going to get tired of that game pretty fast, maybe it helps when you play with friends but if you play on your own games can get boring re...

Sinful Sunday: Toxic gamers

When you play an online multiplayer game there's always a good chance that there's a toxic gamer in your team. The guy or girl that complains about everything and is giving everyone or just one person specific a hard time when things aren't going so well. Even when your team wins these people might find something to whine about, which is exactly why you call them toxic gamers because they poison the team with their words and sometimes even actions. What is a toxic gamer exactly? A toxic gamer is someone that will scream at you for picking the wrong character, that will openly declare his or her hatred for the team and that it's the fault of the team that he or she lost. In other words a toxic gamer is someone that brings a lot of negativity to a team and your team will be much better off without this person. Toxic gamers can be found in most online multiplayer matches, but the biggest chance of finding a toxic gamer is in competitive online multiplayer matches. You...

Expiration date on games?

Ignoring the material of the disc I'd say that games do have an expiration date, because sometimes games are so old that it's just so lame to get back into the old graphics and controls. But there are also exceptions, games that are always fun to play no matter how old they are. The question is, what makes a game special? Usually there's certain factors that play a big role, for example personal experience and nostalgia that can make a game fun to play even twenty or thirty years later. Games have an expiration date? I know that this sounds dumb but hear me out! Of course you can play games whenever you want, as long as the game itself is in good condition and you still have the console you need to play it then there shouldn't be a problem. But how many people actually plug in their NES to play NES games? I don't think that there are a lot of people that are interested in that! But it's not that odd though, because some games are ageless and they're fun ...

Youtube adventures part 27

It's nice when you can make a living out of your youtube job, but a lot of people can't and still need another job to pay the bills. It's extra rough for these people to maintain a youtube channel and keep it interesting, so I'm really impressed with people that can mix their day job with their youtube job and still have a succesful channel. The trick is... Mixing work with pleasure. I don't like work, at least not in the way some people enjoy it as if they can't live without it. I see work as a necessity and I doubt I'm the only one who thinks that. But it's nice when you really do like your job and do the things you like to do for a living. Your youtube channel could be a part of a job you like to do, eventhough it's not all fun. But the majority of it is and that's probably what motivates you, also getting positive comments on your channel can inspire you to do more or even better things with your channel. When you have a day joy then th...

GTA V, the game that never stops?

Every months there's an update or free dlc that keeps the game fresh, so it really makes me wonder if there will ever be a true ending to GTA V. Ok once GTA VI comes out then it might be the end for GTA V but for now it seems that GTA V is still staying strong! People love GTA V? I think it's safe to say that they do. Of course you can read a lot of hate in comments placed under Rockstar videos or update messages on Xboxlive but I think that most of those are from people that actually do like the game and just want to be annoying or people that don't play the game and still just want to be annoying. That doesn't mean that everyone is happy with GTA V. A lot of people complain about money, because everything is so expensive and it takes a long time to gather that much money. For example do you want to buy a fancy vehicle? Well you'll most likely need more than a million to buy it and you don't earn a million in just a day. Even if you can manage to get a crew...

Why are so many people team killing?

This is a serious question, why are so many people team killing in games? I understand that sometimes you make mistakes but if you gun down half your team in the first five seconds of  the match then you're just being an asshole. So seriously what makes people behave this way? Are they having a bad day so they decide to ruin things for everyone else as well? Maybe they're just sad sacks of shit that gain pleasure from annoying other people? Whatever the reason is, it's very annoying when someone kills you at the beginning of a round and you have to wait several minutes until you can play again,. For example in Rainbow Six Siege. Why do developers put the option in a game to kill your own team mates? I guess it's for realism, because hitting someone in real life with your bullets will harm them so in the game they do the same. That makes sense, but when I play a game like Halo then I'm not really looking for realism. I guess another reason for having friendly fir...

Overwatch, the game you love to hate and hate to love?

I like playing Overwatch, it's a fast and fun first person shooter that is easy to learn but difficult to master. Even as the worst first person shooter gamer you can find one of the 21 characters that fits your playstyle, so it doesn't surprise me that a lot of people like to play Overwatch. So what's the problem? Well... Matchmaking is stupid? Whenever I jump into a quick match I find myself out of my league, because there are a lot of high levels and often they're friends playing in a team and I'm in a team of random with often lower levels. High levels usually don't have to mean that much in Overwatch but facing a team that works well together as a team of randoms that don't communicate and don't work together often means defeat for the random team. This doesn't happen once or twice on an evening, no this can happen sometimes ten times in a row! If by some miracle you finally find a good team you immediately get split up in the next match and...

Your level doesn't mean anything in multiplayer?

After playing a weekend of Overwatch I can say at least one thing in that game, your level doesn't mean anything. I was playing with a group of random people (average level 54) and we were up against a team of people that all had stars (a star stands for a hundred levels) and one guy on their team even has two stars. So I thought we were done for, how could you win against people that have such high levels? Apparently quite easy, because we won twice in a row without too much effort. Your level means nothing in certain games? It seems that way, because no matter how high your level is you can still lose just as easily as someone with a low level. But what you can say about people with high levels in multiplayer is that they played a lot, I think the guy with the two stars has played more than 180 hours and he has won more than 500 matches. So that does mean something, but if you do your best and work well with your team then you can even take down some tough opponents. So level...

Sinful Sunday: Jealous of a gamer girl?

Have you ever noticed how many times women get responses on requests to team up in games? I sometimes see people post requests on certain websites, they want to team up with other players. Nothing special about that you might think, but the big difference is that women that make these requests get ten times more replies than guys. Is that weird? Come to think of it, it's probably not that weird. Why do women get more succes with gaming requests? I can think of two reasons, oh wait that's not really nice... But seriously it's really annoying when a guy tries to find other people to play games with and maybe only one or two people reply to that, while women often have a lot more succes when they're looking for a team. It doesn't surprise me that some guys use a female gamertag (for example have miss or lady in the gamertag) to get more succes in teaming up with others, because guys apparently prefer to play with girls in games. I don't think that every guy tha...

Red Dead Redemption is even more popular than GTA V?

Now that Red Dead Redemption is backwards compatible on the Xbox One a lot of people have shown interest in getting this game. Not that strange since it's a fun game and offers you a lot to do and you even have an open world multiplayer, you could see it as the world before GTA V Online and it still looks pretty good! But with all this interest in Red Dead Redemption are people still playing GTA V? Red Dead Redemption is more popular than GTA V? That seems unlikely because GTA V has broken so many records that Red Dead Redemption would have to perform a miracle to break those records. But that doesn't take away the fact that a lot of people have played Red Dead Redemption and now they will keep on playing it on their Xbox One. So Red Dead Redemption might not be as popular as GTA V, it's still a very popular game and I think people can't wait for Red Dead Redemption 2! At the same time people also scream for GTA VI, so it still doesn't really say what the most p...

Youtube adventures part 26

We all have our own channel and we all make our own videos, but what kind of videos do you make? Are you going for gameplay videos, vlogs, videos about pets or maybe you make videos where you have fun with friends. There are all kinds of videos that you can make. But did you know that sometimes people also make videos to apologize? Videos are a way of communicating? It's odd when you think about it, people that make videos to communicate with others. The good thing about videos is that you can reach a lot of people at the same time and sometimes it makes people feel better and other times it might helps as a distraction when someone is going through a rough time. But sometimes people also upload videos to directly communicate with their subscribers or other people that watch the video. It's not strange to make a channel update video, something I hardly ever do. This is something you can do to let people know what they can expect in the near future from your channel, which...

Succes in games, skill or luck?

It's easy to say you have skill in a game but isn't at least half of everything luck? I mean making that impossible shot isn't something you can practice on, that's just luck and no matter what someone would say about it you can't deny the fact that a lot of things that happen in a game are just pure luck. But it would be wrong to say that it's all luck, some people really do have skill and practice usually does make you better. The question, is succes in games based on skill or on luck? You need skill for succes? That's true, but having good team mates can help a lot too. For example when you play in a team based  game and you have great team mates then they can carry you to victory. Even when you're one of the worst players you can still win because others help you win. So skill isn't everything, but if you want to make it on your own then it's definitely a good thing to have. As unfair as it might seem some people have more skill or just h...

Game tip: Dragon Age Inquisition (Xbox One)

If you're a gold member on Xboxlive then you have a sweet deal this week, it's Dragon Age Inquisition (game of the year edition) for 16 Euros! That means you get all the dlc with it! If you know that each piece of story dlc is already 15 Euros a piece then it saves you a lot of money if you buy this. So even if you already have Dragon Age Inquisition but you don't have all of the dlc then you can still save yourself some money with this deal. You can always sell your hard copy and then buy the game of the year version in the deals of the week section. Why should you be interested in Dragon Age Inquisition? Hm...let me think. Oh wait because it was one of the best games of 2014 and it's my favourite game of 2014. It gives you the option to create your own character and go on your own adventure in a big semi open fantasy world. It's not just you fighting dragons or going to creepy place and fight the undead, no it's about building up an army to fight against a...

It doesn't matter if you play as a man or woman in a game?

In my early days of gaming I absolutely didn't want to play as female characters, in those days it didn't happen a lot that you had female playable characters but if they showed up in a game I would never play as one of them. So Chun-Li in Street Fighter and Princess Peach in Super Mario Bros 2 are characters I avoided as much as possible. But as you get older these things become less important and you come to the realization that it doesn't really matter if you play as a man or as a woman in a game, it's about having fun in a game! Mature players don't care about the playable characters? I wouldn't say that, because you would most likely care about the playable character wether you're a mature player or not. Who would want to play as a character that looks dumb, is annoying or has this awful voice in the game that makes you want to turn off the tv? So the playable characters are important, but I don't think people would make a big deal out of it if ...

Competitive multiplayer: the good, the bad and the ugly

Playing games on your own is fun, but sometimes you get this feeling that you want to play games with other people. These people can be your friends or you can play with or against strangers. It seems like a lot of fun but competitive multiplayer isn't just all fun, there is also a darker side to it that makes you want to punch your tv and throw your computer or console out of the window! The good. What I like about competitive multiplayer is working together with people in a team so you can beat another team of people. It's best when you communicate but even if you don't communicate you can sometimes have some amazing multiplayer matches. This is something you don't experience when you play only single player games. Sure it's fun to play single player games but getting a quadruple kill and then taunting the players you just killed isn't something that feels that great in a single player game. I feel a bigger sense of satisfaction when I win in multiplayer m...

Sinful Sunday: You against the world?

Do you ever have the feeling like it's you against the world? Perhaps you have to be a big pessimist for that or just have a streak of bad luck but it does happen sometimes to me. No matter what you do or what you say it all seems to work against you. Every game you play sucks, every conversation is awkward or just lame and nothing goes right the entire day. It's one of those days you wish you stayed in bed, but you have to move forward and make the most of the day. Impossible or not? Make the most of your day? It seems silly but sometimes you have bad days and nothing seems to go right, so instead of enduring that with suffering you could try to make the most of the day. For example do something positive, something that you know that makes you happy. Maybe eat something that makes you happy, watch a movie that makes you happy or spend time with family and friends that make you happy. I'm not saying that this is a guarantee for succes but it beats sulking in a corner! I...

The Walking Dead season 3 (game)

If you played season 1 and 2 of the Walking Dead then you're probably very excited that there is a season 3 coming! The Michonne (mini) game was a nice addition but I think most people just want to continue playing with Clementine and it seems there might at least be one other playable character, Javier. Two playable characters? Yes as far as I heard you can play as both Clementine and as Javier, which gives you some unique perspecitives on what's going on and it might mean that there are different endings or choices in certain situations depending who your character is. If this means that this might be the end for Clementine is a bit of a bold statement, but at the same time everyone can die at any moment in the Walking Dead... Why should you be excited about this game? If you played the Walking Dead season 1 and 2 then I doubt I have to explain that, but in case you're not familiar with these games then I try to explain it. In the Walking Dead you make decisions, ...

Youtube adventures part 25

As a youtuber you want to decide what kind of videos you make and in a way you do, but if you're one of the professional youtubers that wants to earn money with your channel then you might be influenced by others more than you think. So the question is... Do you decide what kind of videos you make? Of course you would say yes, because you decide what kind of videos you make. But do you know how easily you get influenced? For example if the views are very low for certain videos then I bet that this is something that you'll notice and you might change the videos or even completely stop with those videos. For example you make CoD multiplayer videos and if only a handful of people watch these videos then you really have to ask if it's a smart idea to continue with that when you're a professional youtuber. Because if you want to earn money with your videos you need a lot of people watching your videos. Which kind of gives control out of your hands. But some people say ...
