Sinful Sunday: Playing games for glory

We all have our own reasons to play games, but I think that most people play games for fun. But not everyone plays for fun or just for fun, some people also play games for glory. It's good when you have fun but isn't it better when you can also accomplish some amazing things while having fun? The problem is that sometimes when things don't go your way the quest for glory can turn you sour and then you don't have a lot of fun playing games, so in my opinion it's probably smarter to stick to just having fun!


Why would you play for glory?


There are several reasons why you would play for glory, the most obvious answer would be that you play games for glory because you like to win and get things done. You want to be the star in your team or when you play solo do some amazing things that makes you feel good about yourself. Another good reason is when you upload your videos online, you want to get amazing footage to show to your friends and other viewers. It's nice that you can show a video when you're having fun, but isn't it better if you have a video where you do some amazing things and also have fun?


Playing for glory is dumb?


Some people think it's dumb to play for glory, they don't understand the appeal or just consider you an idiot. Why? Because they think that people that play for glory a try hard douchebags that play like cowards just to win or get a lot of kills in a multiplayer match. I can see why some people think that but not everyone plays that way, some people are actually pretty good and their motivation to perform well in a match is usually what keeps their focus on the game. But that doesn't mean that they're not having fun. Some people have fun hanging around with friends, others have fun doing silly things and others have fun by winning games.


Glory isn't everything?


That's right! Even if you really want to win, if you want to get things done and if you want to become one of the best players out there then it's still important to have fun. Because if you play games and have no fun playing them then you're clearly doing something wrong! Sure it's nice when you win a game, when you get achievements/trophies, when you advance to a higher level/rank or if you have amazing footage of you in a game but that's not all there is in the world. When you play games then having fun is probably one of the most important things, because fun keeps you motivated and keeps even older games fresh. Winning is good, having fun in a game is better!

Button bashing

It seems that more and more games want you to smash on the buttons of the controller, which seems like fun but knowing that this weak piece of plastic can´t handle much it´s not the smartest way to handle your controller. In the good old arcade days I could smash on buttons, ok nothing too crazy but at least those machines had a lot more resilience than these weak controllers we have now. You have to pay a small fortune for one of them and they fall apart with the slightest bit of force you use. After smashing a couple of controllers out of frustration I learned to be careful with them, but when games force you to be an agressive button basher it doesn´t really help. Button bashing is nothing new but I do seem to see it in more and more games, even games that could easily do without this abusive way of treating your controller. Sinful Sunday: Why are you so serious?

When I play a game I don't want to be serious, I just want to have fun and relax. Honestly real life is serious enough and I don't need that in games. Who cares who wins or who loses, just have fun and that already makes it great! Unfortunately there are gamers that take certain games way too serious, so serious that they literally forget to have fun which is quite frustrating to deal with. These kind of players are so serious that they probably left the fun behind when they started the game. Sigh... Serious gamers are lame gamers? There is nothing wrong about being serious, but I think there is a time and a place for everything. Mortal Kombat X isn´t just another fighting game?

You´ve probably seen the announce trailer of Mortal Kombat X, then you probably also know that it shows two familiar characters fighting against eachother. At that point you´re probably still thinking that it´s just more of the same but with a better coat of paint, I understand that pessimist look and it´s not often wrong. But from what I´ve heard about Mortal Kombat X is that it´s going to be more than just a new game in the Mortal Kombat game series. What´s new? Apparently there will be more fighting styles for one character, giving everyone his or her own favourite style to use against opponents. There was something familiar in another Mortal Kombat game where they also had weapons in a fighting style, but this seems to go a bit deeper and more unique. Of course these are just words at this point, nothing has been proven just yet!
