Sinful Sunday: Afraid to play games?
It seems silly but some people are afraid to play (certain) games. Why? Because some games can be quite scary! These are usually (survival) horror games that are meant to scare you and to make you feel uncomfortable. But there are also other reasons, for example people that are afraid that when they pick up a game they can't stop playing that game. Which is the main reason why they don't want to play it.
Why would you play a game that is scary?
Believe it or not but some people like scary games. Why? Because they like to test themselves, how much can you take and are you tough enough to make it through this scary game. Others just like creepy and scary things, that's just who they are and as crazy as that might seem to some people it's quite normal for others. Then there are people who play scary games for bragging rights, for example I finished Outlast all by myself in the dark with headphones on. I don't know if you get respect for that or if people will believe you but if it's true then that's a nice personal victory for you.
Afraid to become addicted to a game?
That seems weird but it's true, some people are afraid to play certain games because they're afraid that they can't stop playing that game. I think World of Warcraft is a good example of that, because some people get up early in the morning to start playing and stop late at night. That's not healthy and it makes sense why some people are afraid that they'll get sucked into that and can't stop playing the game. Destiny is another example of an addicting game, eventhough some people hate the game and don't understand why some people play it, because the collecting of weapons and armor can be a lot of fun. Before you know it you spend days, weeks or even months in the game. The trick is to see it coming, when you play a game too much (as in every day for more than 8 hours) then you know you have a problem. I don't think you should be afraid to play a game because you could get addicted to it, but it's smart to keep an eye on your gaming activities. Too much of something is a bad thing!
Some people are easily scared?
That's true, some people are easily scared and it doesn't take much to scare them. I don't think that Mario games will be scary but maybe games with cemeteries and/or investigating a dead body can already be enough for some people to stay far away from that game. Some people just have too much imagination, they make things scarier then they really are and then that imagination will turn the not so scary thing into something horrible. As a kid I had issues with that, but it's thanks to survival horror games that I managed to deal with that. I became stronger and more resistent against scary things. Now I even like scary things and it feels kind of silly that I was afraid of certain things as a kid. But it's nothing to be ashamed of, sometimes things are just scary and that's ok and you don't have to play games you don't want to. Just play games you like and you want to play, because playing games is supposed to be fun and if you're too scared to play a game then you're most likely not having fun.
