Sinful Sunday: Gamers are spoiled?

I could start with how things started for me, but even in those early NES days that was already quite a lot. I had enough friends that didn't have a console and the computer in the house wasn't theirs to use. It's almost the opposite of how things are now because now computers in the house are there also for kids, sometimes people have more than one computer in a house, and a lot of kids also have a console. But I don't get the idea that people always realize how lucky they are, it seems normal and in some cases people even complain about the smallest things. So I can't help but get the idea that gamers these days are a bit spoiled.

Good isn't good enough?

Even when games are up to standard, they're so much fun to play and yet there are always people that have something to complain or whine about. You could say that some people just have high standards but then again some people are just whiners, it's impossible to make them happy with something and even if a game would be perfect they would probably not admit it. We seem to live in such a society, where good has to be better and preferably it has to be the best. That's what I constantly heard at school and what is expected of you in your work, be the best you can and so it's also reflected in the things around us. You don't want an average car, you want the best car you can afford. Do you want a tv to watch series and movies or do you want a home cinema set to get the cinema feeling at home wether you really need/want it or not. So games have to be more than good, they have to be amazing to actually get people excited these days and even then there will always be people who have some complaints. I guess it's the world we live in these days...

But what makes gamers so spoiled then?

Let me first say that not all gamers are spoiled, but there is definitely a group of gamers out there that are spoiled. People who aren't satisfied with games easily and even if games are good they want it to be better. They want something from games that seems almost impossible, because sometimes you hear people complain about the weirdest things that it really makes me wonder if they're serious about it. I guess some people just complain to complain, some people are just impossible to please and so I hope developers stop trying to please people who complain all the time. Make the games that make people happy, because there are a lot of people out there that play games and they're happy with the games that are being released. For example Metal Gear Solid V and Fallout 4 are two games that got a lot of love from the fans, sure there are also people that hate these games or people that have complaints about these games but the majority likes these games and that's what developers should listen to and also other gamers that ask themselves if they should buy these games should listen to people who have something meaningful to say and not to people that just want to hate on games. It's easy to hate on a game, it's even easier to come up with reasons why a game sucks. But don't forget that things can be different, you're lucky that you can play games and have the time to complain about them. There are also people out there that can't afford a computer or console and have so much work to do that they don't have time to complain about the games they play. I'm not saying that you need to be thankful for every moment you can play games, but before you start hating on a game it might be a good idea to think before you open your mouth or decide to type some nonsense on the internet about why a game sucks. If you do feel the need for that then make certain that people know that this is your opinion and not a fact. It's easy to hate, but making a good game is actually quite difficult!
