Looking back at.....Alice the madness returns!
I heard great things about this game so I decided to buy this game myself, but for some reason I didn't play it until it was a year later. I know strange but for some reason I was never motivated to play it, but I'm very happy that I eventually did play it because it's a lot of fun! It's a creepy platformer with some funny dialogue and quite memorable characters. It wouldn't surprise if some people wouldn't like it but everyone with a love for strange things and of course platform games has a great game with Alice the madness returns!
Alice.
You play as Alice, no not the sweet and innocent blonde Disney girl but a dark haired girl that has some issues, and somehow you find your way back in Wonderland. But this isn't the Wonderland you would expect it to be, this Wonderland is creepy and full of horrors that try to kill you. It's a good thing that Alice isn't so innocent herself, with her blade she can cut through enemies and she also has other tools at her disposal that help her beat enemies and make progress in levels. Sometimes that means shrinking, which makes you a bit more vulnerable but helps you get to other areas. Your outfit also changes in each level, so if you don't like the standard outfit you get something new in every level. Your super power is hysteria, this makes you invulnerable for a certain amount of time and you can brutally murder enemies if they dare to fight you!
Dark and twisted.
This Wonderland is dark, no not dark as in it's always night but dark because it's a more sinister version of what you would expect from Wonderland, and I doubt that makes this a game for everyone. I'm not saying it's scary, I think disturbed is a better word for this game but then in a good way. The humour is quite dark and the characters are twisted representations of what you saw in the Alice cartoons, series and movies. This gives you a quite unique look at Wonderland in this game, is it all just your imagination or is this some type of reality? At some points you'll have to ask yourself what is real and what's not, if Alice is slowly losing her mind or if there's something terrible going on.
A game for you?
It wouldn't surprise me if some people would hate this game, but if you have a thing for something different and don't mind playing a weird game then Alice the madness returns is the game for you. But I feel like I'm not giving enough credit to this game, sure it's weird but it's also brilliant! The conversations between the characters, the levels, the characters, the bosses and even the collectibles are all part of a game that is amazing. Unfortunately this game doesn't get the attention it deserves but I think that makes it more special for those that have played it and appreciate it. So if you feel like playing a different type of game then this might be the game for you!
