Sinful Sunday: Hate/hype switching
From the moment Fallout 4 was announced it seemed that almost everyone was excited about that game, it looks so cool and the things you can do are amazing! But once the game was released the hate started to spread, within a day people already started to hate the game. Why? Because the graphics in the game aren't pretty enough, because the loading screens are long, because there are bugs in the game. I'm not saying that this is all acceptable but if you know other games from Bethesda then you surely know that this is nothing new in their games, that doesn't mean that it's all ok but I don't think it's normal to immediately start to hate the game.
It's easier to hate?
Unfortunately it is, because why love a game when it's so much easier to hate a game. I think some people were even looking for things that didn't work in the game or things that weren't perfect, just to have something to hate about the game. I don't think I have to mention how sad that is but as a reviewer it makes sense that you try to analyze the game with (hopefully) an objective view. You say what's good about a game and you'll also mention what's bad about the game. But some people go on the hype train and say it's all good while others try to bury the game in a shitload of nonsense. For example I heard in an IGN discussion that one of the guys that was talking about the game actually didn't like Fallout 4 because when he's playing Fallout 4 he's not spending time with his family. It's things like this that makes me want to punch people like that, but then again some people are just idiots!
But why do people switch so easily between hype and hate?
Because some people are just like sheep? Well maybe that's not a nice thing to say but I've seen it so many times where one popular opinion suddenly because fact in the eyes of some people. Instead of running after what someone else thinks, wether it's true or false, I value my own reasoning and I'll decide if I like or dislike something. But this does make sense when people often switch so easily between hype and hate, because it's easy and often it's done without a real motivation. Eventhough disappointment plays a big role as well, because when you're really excited about a game and that game turns out to be less good than you expected then you can take that pretty hard. So it's smart to be a bit moderate about games, not that there's anything wrong with being excited about games but it's just going to hit you that much harder when the game isn't as impressive as you first thought.
