Black Ops 3 (first impression)
I played the Black Ops 3 beta a couple of months ago but now I have the game and I could play everything! The game got a lot of fans excited and I have to admit that things look good, but how good is this game really and can it really live up to all the hype? Let's find out...
Your campaign, your character?
One of the biggest changes in the campaign is that you create your own character, this gives you some customization options and a unique look in the campaign. This means that you decide how your character is going to look and if you play as a male or female character. Your character will also be quite talkative and not just in the cutscenes, now he or she will talk during the mission and does that with more than just a few words. Another change in the campaign is the four player co-op, which is of course completely optional and isn't required to beat the campaign. The campaign itself is fun, but some missions can be a bit frustrating (especially on a higher difficulty). I also encountered some slow loading screens and the game froze in one of the loading screens as well, hopefully that's just a tiny kink in the cable but that wasn't the only time something went wrong in the game. But more about that later. You can earn experience in the campaign and unlock new outfits or profile attributes (for example calling cards) and this also helps you level up weapons. This makes it more fun to play the campaign, especially once you beat the campaign because then you unlock the zombie campaign!
Multiplayer is fast and deadly?
That's one way of calling it, but it's by far not as ridiculous as CoD Advanced Warfare and definitely more fun to play. The specialists are amazing and give an extra layer to multiplayer, but it usually still comes down to how well you handle your weapons in multiplayer. Multiplayer is a bit slower than CoD AW and that's a good thing, maybe some people enjoy the fast action but I don't mind that things go a bit slower in multiplayer. You can once again go crazy with making your own emblem and earning new calling cards to create your unique style, but you can also get emblems that are already made for you, in case you're not so creative or don't feel like making something. You can also put your own art on your gun with the paint shop, this is where you can customize the look of your weapons and make something amazing! But if you're not that much of an artist you can get works of art from other players that have made their work available to others. It's fun to try out new specialists and see what works best for you, this makes it interesting to play multiplayer and try out new things. Combine that with all the weapons and other things you can do and you'll probably spend a long time in multiplayer!
Zombies are back?
Better than ever even! First of all you get a zombie celebrity map with Hollywood actors (playing a role of course) fighting for their lives against the zombies. The look of this zombie adventure is dark and twisted with a ominous look to it. This fits perfectly with the option to turn yourself in a monster! A monster? Yes you can turn your character in a monster, for a limited amount of time, and destroy the zombies which can be quite useful and should help you solve the puzzles on the map. I did encounter some issues while playing zombie mode, sometimes it doesn't load the map and eventually I couldn't play zombie mode at all. If you have the season pass then you also get acces to the new version of der Riese (the giant) which is an old zombie map with the popular zombie survivors (Dempsey, Sergei, Takeo and Richthoffen) and it looks fantastic! If that's not enough zombies for you then you can also play the zombie campaign, you unlock this if you beat the campaign and then you try your luck on the same maps but then mostly against zombies! The same maps? Unfortunately the maps are the same, but not all in the same order, but now you fight mostly against zombies and that's pretty cool. You will encounter some human and robot enemies but zombies are the biggest threat out there!
Black Ops 3 is worth checking out?
Black Ops 3 is a lot of fun to play and offers you a lot, but to be honest there are still issues in the game and I really hate that I already encountered this on day one. It didn't ruin the game for me but it sucks when you're unable to play zombie mode because of some bullshit. It's fun that you can customize your own character in the campaign and adding the specialists in multiplayer, it gives you something new in something familiar. I think that works pretty good and should keep fans busy for quite some time! I think that Black Ops 3 gives the fans a lot and it's definitely worth checking out, wether you do it for multiplayer or just the zombies.
