Sex vs Violence in games

It seems silly but there are countries in the world where people consider sex worse than violence. I mean seriously? It's thanks to sex that we're all here, so how can that be worse than violence? Well some people are worried that sex in games will turn people into monsters (or something like that), but when people play games with violence then it's not a big deal. It seems ridiculous but for some reason this is how the world works, that's pretty fucked up!

Sex is bad?

When Mass Effect had 30 seconds of two character models rubbing against eachother (without you actually seeing anything interesting) the world almost exploded, how could this be in a game and look at the damage it could do to the children. Well first of all Mass Effect isn't a game for children, so any idiot that lets his or her kid play this game should first take a look at his or her parenting skills instead of screaming bloody murder. But let's also look at the fact that this is a game for adults, as adults we can handle things and I think sex is just a natural part of your life. Seeing that in a game isn't bad, it's actually a part of any healthy relationship (usually also in unhealthy relationships but that's another story) and when you tell a story in a game where you can have a relationship with another character it seems weird to me that you leave out any physical contact or intimacy. So yeah sex isn't really for the kids, but the games that offer you intimacy with other characters are usually made and rated for adults. Sure the Sims is a bit more flexible with that but you don't even see anything there, so once again it's idiots screaming bloody murder and there's nothing going on.

Why is violence tolerated?

That's odd isn't it? So sex is bad, ok I get why some people think that but then violence is ok? Or is that picking a lesser evil? Well I don't know about you but I think violence is worse than sex. I'm not saying that violent games make you violent, but to expose young minds to this doesn't seem like a good idea either. But whenever I play Call of Duty (whatever game in the series) there are always a lot of kids online as well, yes kids as in I still sound like a girl kind of kid, but that seems to be perfectly alright. Unless the parents of these kids are complete idiots, they open their mouths about what's wrong for their kids but can't be bothered to check on what kind of games they're actually playing. Then you might get the idea that people think that violence in games is ok because it's not real, but doesn't that count for sex in games as well? I guess there is still a taboo on sex, sure we all do it but somehow for some people it's still something we know of eachother but we can't openly talk about. Which is fine with me, I don't feel like talking openly about sex but does that really mean that we can't play games with sex or even a slight hint of intimacy in it? That doesn't mean that all violent games are accepted, games like Manhunt are even forbidden in some countries because it's considered as too violent. I guess it would help if you could guarantee that kids would never be able to play these games, but unfortunately you can't and so everyone has to suffer not being able to play games like that. Unless you find some other way of course...

Games really influence people?

Well I think they do, in a way at least. It's not when I'm intimate with a character in a game that I want to be intimate in real life or when I kill people in a game that I want to kill people in real life, that's not what I mean! But emotions in games can have an effect on some players, for example a sad moment (a character dies or something else that is sad happens) makes you feel sad and some people even cry when something sad happens in a game. You become emotionally invested in some games, then they can have a strong effect on you when something happens. That's actually not a bad thing. Sex and especially violence are more frequent in games, that kind of takes the power away from that. Because when you kill over a thousand people in a game then it kind of loses it's power, oh look random character in a game gets killed by your character and move on to the next one. With sex in games it's usually a bit less frequent but you can have multiple playthroughs so it's not like you can't go through the same experience multiple times. But that does take away the affect it has, because once you see naked breasts wiggle in your face in GTA V then you've seen most of it. In the back of your mind you will know that this is fake, as much as you might like it you know that it's not real and that whatever you do it's just in a game. Maybe some people have issues with that, people that can't tell the difference between what's real and what's not, but I think most people that play games know what's real and what's not. Is it really so bad that you find intimacy in a game? Is violence so terrible in games? Yeah some games are violent up to the point that it's really over the top, but it's still up to the people to decide if they want to play that. Nobody forces someone to go into a relationship with another character in a game, it's you being nice to someone else and it could even help you become a bit more confident for some real life conversations. Violence in games seem wrong but think about having a shitty day at school or work, isn't it fun that you can relax and play a game where you can blow off some steam? Of course games aren't there to encourage you to have sex with a lot of people or to be violent to people, games are there for your amusement and as long as people are having fun playing games then why would someone want to take that away from them? Oh right when you're an asshole!
