Rise of the Tomb Raider (first impression)
After a fantastic experience with the 2013 version of Tomb Raider I was really excited about Rise of the Tomb Raider. So I bought the game and played it, but is it just as good as I was hoping it would be? Yes! It's a fun game and definitely worth checking out!
Lara kicks ass?
Absolutely, she looks pretty cool and in a realistic way as you would expect from the previous game. Sure certain things are a bit over the top but then again this is a game and realism just goes that far. The important thing is that the action moments are back, the moment where everything goes to hell and you better get moving or you're dead! This keeps the game alive and make it an adrenaline ride, but there are also some moments where you need to investigate and where you can explore a bit. There are also collectibles and other things you can discover, one of those things are documents that help you learn an new language.
Learning a language?
This is one of those things that's a bit less realistic but it's a nice detail that you can learn a language and help decipher texts in a ruin. You can find pictures on the walls or documents and that helps you learn a language faster, the more you learn the more you can decipher. When you decipher something it helps you find hidden treasure, for example a stack of ancient coins buried near you or a hidden relic. So it's worth checking out an area and finding documents or checking out pictures on the wall.
Moving around?
You're not in one spot in this game, now you travel around and at this point I saw Lara in England (cutscenes), Syria (playable) and Syberia (also playable). This brings you from rainy England to hot Syria and then ice cold Syberia. The different locations are nice but it's not making that much of a difference to gameplay, eventhough moving through thick snow slows you down a lot more and you encounter different wildlife. But the gameplay still comes down to the same stuff, which is good thing in my opinion. So far I had a blast playing Rise of the Tomb Raider and I can definitely recommend it to you!
