Professional gamer?

I've heard several people call themselves a professional gamer but I doubt that most of them even know what that means. I guess it sounds cool to be professional but when you hear a ten year old kid call himself a professional gamer then it's difficult to believe that. What's probably even more disturbing is how some people actually think that this gets them more respect or make them better than you. It's one of the many reasons why you probably don't want to talk with random players in some games.

What is a professional gamer?

It's someone that earns a living with playing games, which doesn't automaticly mean that this person is a great player. Some people upload funny videos where they fail or just mess around with friends, there's no superior skill in that but just fun and that's what gaming should be about. But there are professional gamers that earn money by winning a tournament and other prizes with their skills. Usually these people have skills in a particular type of game, often first person shooters or third person shooters. If you're dumb enough to believe that professional just stays for skill then you're mistaken, but feel free to believe what you want and make an idiot of yourself if that's what you want.

How do you become a professional gamer?

Practice, but then again that's an easy answer. If you want to make it on Youtube or maybe Twitch then you have to come up with something funny or original. Of course you can just upload and/or stream gaming videos but in the ocean of gaming videos it's difficult to be noticed if you don't have something going for yourself. It doesn't always mean you need talent, sometimes you just need luck or a chance to prove yourself. You can play a game like CoD or FIFA for weeks and maybe even months and still there will be others that will beat you, if you lack the skill then look for what you can do. Never look at what you can't do but what you can do, hopefully that helps you earn a living with playing games. But it's not that easy, no matter how hard you try sometimes people just aren't interested.

Does it really matter if you're a professional or not?

I don't think so! Who cares if someone is a professional or not, it's about having a good time playing games. Even when you play to win and desperately want to win it's still important that you have fun, because when games stop being fun then what's the point of playing them? It's great if you can earn a living with playing games but there is more in life than games. People that do believe that being professional is important are probably desperate trying to become professional or pretending to be professional to make themselves feel better. I doubt people really care if you're professional or not, it's about having fun and the moment you forget that then you should find something else to do because you're missing the point why so many people play games.
